BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese leader Hu Jintao delivered a report on Thursday at the opening of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The following are key quotes from his report:

On military modernization

推進(jìn)國(guó)防和軍隊(duì)現(xiàn)代化

-- Building strong national defense and powerful armed forces that are commensurate with China's international standing and meet the needs of its security and development interests is a strategic task of China's modernization drive.

建設(shè)與我國(guó)國(guó)際地位相稱(chēng)、與國(guó)家安全和發(fā)展利益相適應(yīng)的鞏固國(guó)防和強(qiáng)大軍隊(duì)，是我國(guó)現(xiàn)代化建設(shè)的戰(zhàn)略任務(wù)。

-- We should attach great importance to maritime, space and cyberspace security. We should make active planning for the use of military forces in peacetime, expand and intensify military preparedness, and enhance the capability to accomplish a wide range of military tasks, the most important of which is to win local war in an information age.

與時(shí)俱進(jìn)加強(qiáng)軍事戰(zhàn)略指導(dǎo)，高度關(guān)注海洋、太空、網(wǎng)絡(luò)空間安全，積極運(yùn)籌和平時(shí)期軍事力量運(yùn)用，不斷拓展和深化軍事斗爭(zhēng)準(zhǔn)備，提高以打贏信息化條件下局部戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)能力為核心的完成多樣化軍事任務(wù)能力。
