海是深綠色的，說不上光滑;排了隊(duì)的小浪開正步走，數(shù)不清有多少，喊著口令“一、二——一”似的，朝喇叭口的海塘來了。擠到沙灘邊，噗澌!——隊(duì)伍解散，噴著忿怒的白沫。然而后一排又趕著撲上來了。

The sea is deep blue, and cannot be called smooth, for countless rows of small breakers aremarching in parade-step as if following the shouted command, "One, two! One!" — towardsthe trumpet-shaped jetty. Crowded close together, they rush to the sandy beach-splash! Themarching ranks scatter and burst into angry spray. The rows immediately behind follow suit.

三只五只的白鷗輕輕地掠過，翅膀撲著波浪——一點(diǎn)一點(diǎn)躁怒起來的波浪。

A few white seagulls flicker across the surface of the sea, quickly and lightly, wings skimming thewaves which become, little by little, increasingly restive.

風(fēng)在掌號(hào)。沖鋒號(hào)!小波浪跳躍著，每一個(gè)像個(gè)大眼睛，閃射著金光。滿海全是金眼睛，全在跳躍。海塘下空隆空隆地騰起了喊殺。

The wind is trumpeting, a bugle calling to charge! Small breakers spring up, each breaker like alarge eye casting out golden sparks. The whole sea is full of golden eyes, all leaping. Rumble—rumble... beneath the jetty a battle cry bursts forth.

而這些海的跳躍著的金眼睛重重疊疊一排接一排，一排怒似一排，一排比一排濃溢著血色的赤，連到天邊，成為紺金色的一抹。這上頭，半輪火紅的夕陽(yáng)!

The sea's golden eyes fall into ranks, each rank pursued by the next, each angrier than the lastand deepening to blood-red as they stretch to the golden line of the horizon. There, above, liesthe fiery half circle of the setting sun!

半邊天燒紅了，重甸甸地壓在夕陽(yáng)的光頭上。

Half the sky burns red, pressing heavily down upon the bald head of the sun.

憤怒地掙扎的夕陽(yáng)似乎在說：

The indignantly struggling sun seems to be saying:

哦，哦!我已經(jīng)盡了今天的歷史的使命，我已經(jīng)走完了今天的路程了!現(xiàn)在，現(xiàn)在，是我的休息時(shí)間到了，是我的死期到了!哦，哦!卻也是我的新生期快開始了!明天，從海的那一頭，我將威武地升起來，給你們光明，給你們溫暖，給你們快樂!

呼——呼——

"Oh! Oh! I have completed today's historic duty; I have finished today's journey! Now, now, mytime to rest has come; my time to die is here. Oh! Oh! And yet, it is also my rebirth that willsoon begin! Tomorrow, from the other end of the sea, I shall bravely hoist myself up, give youlight, give you warmth, give you joy!"

Whooo-huuu...

風(fēng)帶著永遠(yuǎn)不會(huì)死的太陽(yáng)的宣言到全世界。高的喜馬拉雅山的最高峰，汪洋的太平洋，陰郁的古老的小村落，銀的白光冰凝了都市，——一切，一切，夕陽(yáng)都噴上了一口血焰!

The wind carries the declaration of the never-dying sun to all the world. The highest peaks ofthe Himalayas; the endless waters of the Pacific; small, old, gloomy villages; cities frozen bysilver lights upon each and every one, the setting sun scatters its blood-red flames!

兩點(diǎn)三點(diǎn)白鷗劃破了漸變?yōu)轸魃奶炜铡?/p>

The sky, deepening to ochre, is broken by two or three seagulls.

風(fēng)帶著夕陽(yáng)的宣言去了。像忽然熔化了似的;海的無數(shù)跳躍著的金眼睛攤平為暗綠的大面孔。遠(yuǎn)處有悲壯的笳聲。

The wind that carried the countless leaping golden eyes smooth themselves down into a great,dull, green face.

From near, then far, comes the solemn, tragic sound of a flute.

夜的黑幕沉重地將落未落。

Night's black curtain will be heavily lowered, but has not yet completely fallen.

不知到什么地方去過一次的風(fēng)，忽然又回來了，這回是打著鼓似的：勃侖侖，勃侖侖!不，不單是風(fēng)，有雷!風(fēng)挾著雷聲!

The wind, having gone no-one-knows-where, suddenly returns, returns as a beating drum:Boom-lum-lum, Boom-lum-lum! No, not the wind alone, but thunder! The wind carries the voiceof thunder!

海又動(dòng)蕩，波浪跳起來，轟!轟!

The sea roils again, waves surging high, Crash! Crash!

在夜的海上，大風(fēng)雨來了!

To the night-bound sea a storm has come!
