She was trying to laugh, but, God bless her, how completely she failed in the attempt!

那女人想笑，可上帝保佑，她卻一點(diǎn)沒笑出來，

Her mouth got into the position to laugh, but it never moved after that, save to draw down at the corners and quiver,

她的嘴準(zhǔn)備笑的姿態(tài)，突然竟僵在那里，她的臉部嘴角肌肉亦沒有顫抖，

while her eyes blinked so fast that I suspect she only caught occasional glimpses of the broad-shouldered fellow who elbowed his way so rapidly toward her.

只是快速地眨動(dòng)眼睛。我估計(jì)，人潮洶涌中的她需要費(fèi)力才能看清那個(gè)熟悉的身影，那個(gè)有著寬闊肩膀的男人此刻正拼命地?cái)D開人群，快步朝她跑去。

As he drew close, and dropped the portmanteaus, she turned to one side, and covered her face with her hands;

當(dāng)他跑到跟前，扔下行李箱，她轉(zhuǎn)過身子，用手捂住臉，

and thus she was when the strong man gathered her up in his arms as if she were a child, and held her sobbing to his breast.

那壯實(shí)的男人一把將她像孩子般摟進(jìn)懷里，將她哭泣的臉貼在他的胸前。

There were enough staring at them, heaven knows;

兩人凝視了很久很久，天知道！

so I turned my eyes away a moment, and then I saw two boys in threadbare roundabouts standing near, wiping their eyes on their sleeves,

我轉(zhuǎn)身片刻，隨后注意到他們身旁環(huán)狀交叉路口邊，站著兩個(gè)衣衫襤褸的男孩，仔細(xì)地看著媽媽的一舉一動(dòng)，

and bursting into tears anew at every fresh demonstration on the part of their mother.

孩子們一邊用袖口擦拭眼睛，一邊嚎啕大哭。

When I looked at the stranger again he had his hat drawn over his eyes;

當(dāng)我再度打量那位陌生人，他已將帽檐拉下遮住眼睛；

but his wife was looking up at him, and it seemed as if the pent-up tears of those weary months of waiting were streaming through her eyelids.

而他的妻子正仰臉看著他，似乎疲憊等待歲月中壓抑經(jīng)久的情感爆發(fā)，滾滾熱淚潸然而下。
