At sixes and sevens最早出現(xiàn)在14世紀(jì)，指的是壓上自己所有的財(cái)富玩丟骰子的游戲，目標(biāo)是投出六或七，風(fēng)險(xiǎn)相當(dāng)高(游戲名稱已經(jīng)失傳因此也不清楚為啥骰子還能投出7);直到17世紀(jì)中期，詞組的意思發(fā)生了變化，多指處于一種很混亂的狀態(tài)。因此，引申為困惑的；混亂的；雜亂無章；亂七八糟。
