飛機(jī)在天上，到底是in the air 還是on the air?

in the air

說到 in the air ，那就是飛機(jī)在天上飛。

例：

There is a plane in the air.

天上有架飛機(jī)。

on the air

我們常說的 on the air 指的是電視，廣播等表示正在直播。

例：

Three，two，one，we're on the air.

3,2,1，我們開始直播。

clear the air 打消疑惑

clear清除，air空氣，連起來to clear the air清除兩人間不愉快的氣氛，其實(shí)就是“消除隔閡”的意思。

例：

Let's discuss this frankly. It'll be better if we clear the air.

我們還是開誠布公的談一談吧。最好把事情都說明白了。

看時間 tell time

看時間，英文怎么說?很多小伙伴會用watch time ，see time 來表達(dá)，但正確的表達(dá)是 tell time ，tell在這里不止有告訴的意思，還有知道，辨別的意思。所以，tell time 就是根據(jù)鐘表來辨別時間。

例：

The clock stops telling time.

這表不走了。

dog's life 寒酸狼狽的日子

dog's life 并不是說狗的生活怎么樣，而是形容某人活得像只狗，過得像狗一樣寒酸狼狽。這個說法起源于16世紀(jì)，人們說起dog's life就是去形容狗在當(dāng)時的處境十分難堪，演變至今，就用來表示某人活得寒酸狼狽，豬狗不如。

例：

He's been leading a dog's life since his wife left him.

他老婆跑了之后，他就過得寒酸狼狽。

老顧客 regular customer

英文表達(dá)中，說老顧客不會采用old customer 這個說法，而是用regular customer，表示常客。

例：

I'm a regular customer there.

我是那兒的老顧客。
