我還是躺在你的席子上,可惜柔軟的泥地沒有了!我的席子呀,
I saw thee woven in the wood, my mat! green the first day I brought ye thence; now worn and wilted quite.
我是看到你在樹林里編起來的,我第一天把你拿到這里來的時(shí)候,你還是碧綠的;現(xiàn)在卻已經(jīng)很舊很毛了。
Ah me!-not thou nor I can bear the change! How then, if so be transplanted to yon sky?
我呀...這種變化,是你我都經(jīng)不起的呀!如果把它移植到那邊的青天去,又怎么樣呢?
Hear I the roaring streams from Pirohitee's peak of spears, when they leap down the crags and drown the villages?
流水奔下巖石,涌向村莊的時(shí)候,我不是聽到皮羅希提的峰尖發(fā)出滾滾的水聲么?
The blast, the blast! Up, spine, and meet it! (Leaps to his feet.)
該死,該死!打起精神來,去迎接它!(跳了起來)
PORTUGUESE SAILOR
葡萄牙水手:
How the sea rolls swashing 'gainst the side! Stand by for reefing, hearties! the winds are just crossing swords, pell-mell they'll go lunging presently.
滾滾的海浪把船側(cè)沖擊得多厲害啊!趕緊準(zhǔn)備收縮帆篷呀,伙伴們!風(fēng)刮得象交叉的劍,它可就要亂戳起來了。
DANISH SAILOR
丹麥水手:
Crack, crack, old ship! so long as thou crackest, thou holdest!
噼啪,噼啪,老船呀!只要你能噼啪下去,你就盡管噼啪吧!
Well done! The mate there holds ye to it stiffly.
干得好!那邊的大副可把你們抓得太緊了。
He's no more afraid than the isle fort at Cattegat, put there to fight the Baltic with storm-lashed guns, on which the sea-salt cakes!
他跟卡特蓋特島要塞一般不怕什么了,用風(fēng)暴推動(dòng)的大炮在那里跟波羅的海拚個(gè)明白,海鹽在大炮上結(jié)起硬塊!
4TH NANTUCKET SAILOR
南塔開特水手丁:
He has his orders, mind ye that. I heard old Ahab tell him he must always kill a squall, something as they burst a waterspout with a pistol-fire your ship right into it!
他是聽命辦事的,你要注意。我聽到亞哈老頭對他說,他必須始終擋住狂風(fēng),有點(diǎn)象人們用手槍打破槽口一樣把船直沖進(jìn)去!

英國水手:
Blood! but that old man's a grand old cove! We are the lads to hunt him up his whale!
該死!那老頭可是一個(gè)了不起的老家伙!我們就是命該給他捉牢他那條鯨的小伙子!

How the three pines shake! Pines are the hardest sort of tree to live when shifted to any other soil, and here there's none but the crew's cursed clay.
看那三根松木晃得多厲害呀!松樹本來是最堅(jiān)韌的樹木,隨你移到哪種土壤里都能活下去,可是,這里卻只有水手們的該死的泥土。
Steady, helmsman! steady. This is the sort of weather when brave hearts snap ashore, and keeled hulls split at sea.
留心,舵手們!留心。這種天氣是會(huì)把最有力氣的人刮到岸上,會(huì)把海上的船龍骨都刮碎的。
Our captain has his birthmark; look yonder, boys, there's another in the sky lurid--like, ye see, all else pitch black.
我們的船長是有痕記的;你們瞧那邊,伙計(jì)們,天上有另一種痕記，樣子怪可怕,你們看,其余盡是漆黑一片。
