Lesson25 Do the English speak English?

課文內(nèi)容：

I arrived in London at last. The railway station wasbig, black and dark. I did not know the way to myhotel, so I asked a porter. I not only spoke Englishvery carefully, but very clearly as well. The porter,however, could not understand me. I repeated myquestion several times and at last he understood. Heanswered me, but he spoke neither slowly norclearly. 'I am a foreigner,' I said. Then he spokeslowly, but I could not understand him. My teacher never spoke English like that! Theporter and I looked at eachotherand smiled. Then he said something and I understoodit. 'You'll soon learn English!' he said.I wonder. In England, each person speaks a differentlanguage. The English understand each other, but I don't understand them! Do they speakEnglish?

10、My teacher never spoke English like that!

我的老師從來(lái)不那樣說(shuō)英語(yǔ)!

語(yǔ)言點(diǎn) like在此為介詞，意為“像”。

11. The porter and I looked at each other and smiled.

我和搬運(yùn)工相視一笑。

語(yǔ)言點(diǎn) each other—般表示兩者之間彼此，但也可表示三者以上的人之間彼此，相當(dāng)于one another。

12. Then he said something and I understood it.

接著他說(shuō)了點(diǎn)什么，這回我聽懂了。

語(yǔ)言點(diǎn) something指代很難用一句話說(shuō)明的某事、某物(縮寫為：sth.)。

I want something to eat.我想吃點(diǎn)東西。

I want to tell you something.我想告訴你件事

She bought something to eat.她買了一 些東西來(lái)吃。
