I arrived in London at last. The railway station wasbig, black and dark. I did not know the way to myhotel, so I asked a porter. I not only spokeEnglish very carefully, but very clearly as well.The porter, however, could not understand me.I repeated my question several times and at lastheunderstood. he answered me, but he spokeneither slowly nor clearly. 'I am a foreigner,' I said.Then he spokeslowly, but I could not understand him. My teacher never spoke English likethat! The porter and I lookedat each other and smiled. Then he said something and Iunderstood it. 'You'll soon learn English!' he said.I wonder. In England, each person speaks adifferent language. The English understand each other, but Idon't understand them! Do theyspeak English?

語(yǔ)言點(diǎn) 黃金句型：不但……而且……1) not only...but...as well 2) not only...but also...

當(dāng)not only...but also...連接主語(yǔ)時(shí)，靠近謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞的部分，即but also后面的部分(名詞或代詞)決定謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞的單復(fù)數(shù)。

Not only the workers but also the manager was dismissed.

不僅工人們被解雇了，那位經(jīng)理也被解雇了。
