France has increased security at its embassies and other interests around the world after a French satirical magazine published cartoons mocking the Prophet Muhammad. A move it fears could further inflame tensions. The French Foreign Minister said he was concerned by the 20 images printed in the weekly Charlie Hebdo, which poked fun at recent violent anti-American protests. One of the cartoonists known only by his pen name, Luz, told the BBC the cartoons had not been designed to provoke violent reaction.
We are not in a provocative mood, it's not the point. We are doing just drawing for years and years on many subjects. We are not obsessed by Muslim violation. Everybody is looking or joins like a provocation, but it is not, it's only drawings, it's only a little sketch of papers, we are not in the crusades .
The Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi who's visiting the Untied States has been presented with the country's highest civilian honour four years after she was awarded it while under house arrest. Receiving the Congressional Gold Medal in Washington, Mrs Suu Kyi thanked the US for its support for democracy in her country.
The great honour that you have conferred to me, will be a lasting momentum of the steadfast support of the United States Congress for the democratic aspirations of my people. An internal inquiry in the United States has uncovered a series management failures in a sting operation that led gun runner smuggle weapons to Mexico in the hope of a flushing out high-ranking Mexican criminals. Agents in the operations known as Fast and Furious lost track of around 2,000 weapons. Paul Adams reports from the Washington.
The Justice Department internal watchdog says a series of misguided strategies, tactics and errors in judgement all contributed to the failure of Fast and Furious and a similar earlier operation. The report says the employees at the Justice Department, as well as the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, fire arms and explosives, should now face disciplinary action . It doesn't recommend any criminal charges be brought nor does it criticise the Attorney General Eric Holder, who's accepted both the reports findings and resignations of two two senior officials.
A Kenyan police has told the BBC that two mass graves found in the trouble town at Delta region will be excavated on Thursday. More than 100 people have been killed into tribal fighting over the past month. A BBC correspondent who visited the areas says he passed burnt and deserted villages with goods scattered over the ground.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has called on the United Nations Security Council to take action against Rwandan forces in the east of the country. The Congolese Information Minister Lambert Mende said Rwanda was occupying Congo. Earlier the head of the UN peacekeeping operations Herve Ladsous told the UN Security Council that the Congolese rebels backed by Rwandan forces had established what he called a de facto administration in the east.
The head of Georgia's National Security Council Giga Bokeria says several prison officers identified on video showing the abuse of prisoners have been charged and in detention including high ranking officials. He was speaking after a footage emerged showing inmates being badly beaten, one is sexually abused with a broom. Mr Bokeria told the BBC further action would be taken.
Where the immediate changes would happen are the areas where there is either evidence of concentrated misconduct or where there is a reasonable doubt that this institution has been affected. As for the future, I don't want to prejudge any decisions which were made by the comprehensive inquiry about what happened and about what should happen.
Italy's highest court has upheld the conviction of 23 Americans for kidnapping a Muslim cleric nine years ago. In the first trial, anywhere in the world involving the CIA extraordinary rendition programme. The 22 agents and one former air force pilot, along with two former Italian spies were found guilty in 2009 of taking part in the abduction of the Egyptian cleric in Milan. The CIA agents were tried in absentia they could face arrest if they attempt to travel to Europe.
The Mexican president Felipe Calderon has ordered a thorough investigation into an explosion at a gas plant which killed 26 people on Tuesday. Mr Calderon said the quick reaction of the emergency workers had prevented, what he said, could have been a real catastrophe.
