　　第三十章 修身

　　唯天下至圣為能聰明睿知，足以有臨也;寬裕溫柔，足以有容也;發(fā)強(qiáng)剛毅，足以有執(zhí)也;齊莊中正，足以有敬也;文理密察，足以有別也。溥博淵泉，而時(shí)出之。溥博如天，淵泉如淵。見(jiàn)而民莫不敬，言而民莫不信，行而民莫不說(shuō)。是以聲名洋溢乎中國(guó)，施及蠻貊。舟車(chē)所至，人力所通;天之所覆，地之所載;日月所照，霜露所隊(duì)。凡有血?dú)庹撸蛔鹩H，故曰配天。

　　It is only he, possessed of all sagely qualities that can exist under heaven, who shows himself quick in apprehension, clear in discernment, of far-reaching intelligence, and all-embracing knowledge, fitted to exercise rule; magnanimous, generous, benign, and mild, fitted to exercise forbearance; impulsive, energetic, firm, and enduring, fitted to maintain a firm hold; self-adjusted, grave, never swerving from the Mean, and correct, fitted to command reverence; accomplished, distinctive, concentrative, and searching, fitted to exercise discrimination.

　　All-embracing is he and vast, deep and active as a fountain, sending forth in their due season his virtues.

　　All-embracing and vast, he is like Heaven. Deep and active as a fountain, he is like the abyss. He is seen, and the people all reverence him; he speaks, and the people all believe him; he acts, and the people all are pleased with him.

　　Therefore his fame overspreads the Middle Kingdom, and extends to all barbarous tribes. Wherever ships and carriages reach; wherever the strength of man penetrates; wherever the heavens overshadow and the earth sustains; wherever the sun and moon shine; wherever frosts and dews fall:-all who have blood and breath unfeignedly honor and love him. Hence it is said,-"He is the equal of Heaven."

　　唯天下至圣，為能聰明睿知1，足以有臨也2。寬裕溫柔3，足以有容也4。發(fā)強(qiáng)剛毅5，足以有執(zhí)也6。齊莊中正7，足以有敬也。文理密察8，足以有別也9。

　　溥博淵泉，而時(shí)出之10。溥博如天，淵泉如淵。見(jiàn)而民莫不敬11，言而民莫不信，行而民莫不說(shuō)12。

　　是以聲名洋溢乎中國(guó)13，施及蠻貊14。舟車(chē)所至，人力所通，天之所覆，地之所載，日月所照，霜露所隊(duì)15，凡有血?dú)庹?，莫不尊親16。故曰配天。

　　【譯文】

　　只有天下崇高的圣人，才能做到聰明智慧，能夠居上位而臨下民;寬宏大量，溫和柔順，能夠包容天下;奮發(fā)勇健，剛強(qiáng)堅(jiān)毅，能夠決斷天下大事;威嚴(yán)莊重，忠誠(chéng)正直，能夠博得人們的尊敬;條理清晰，詳辨明察，能夠辨別是非邪正。

　　崇高的圣人，美德廣博而又深厚，并且時(shí)常會(huì)表現(xiàn)出來(lái)。德性廣博如天，德性深厚如淵。美德表現(xiàn)在儀容上，百姓沒(méi)有誰(shuí)不敬佩，表現(xiàn)在言談中，百姓沒(méi)有誰(shuí)不信服。表現(xiàn)在行動(dòng)上，百姓沒(méi)有誰(shuí)不喜悅。

　　這樣，美好的名聲廣泛流傳在中國(guó)，并且傳播到邊遠(yuǎn)的少數(shù)民族地區(qū)。凡是車(chē)船行駛的地方，人力通行的地方，霜露降落的地方;凡有血?dú)獾纳?，沒(méi)有不尊重和不親近他們的，所以說(shuō)圣人的美德能與天相匹配。

　　1、睿(rui)知：聰明智慧。知，通“智”。

　　2、有臨：居上臨下。臨，本指高處朝向低處，后引申為上對(duì)下之稱(chēng)。《論語(yǔ)•為政》：“臨之以莊，則敬。”

　　3、寬裕：寬，廣大。裕，舒緩。

　　4、有容：容納，包容。

　　5、發(fā)強(qiáng)：發(fā)，奮發(fā)。強(qiáng)，勇力。

　　6、有執(zhí)：操持決斷天下大事。

　　7、齊莊：恭敬莊重。中正：不偏不倚。

　　8、文理：條理。密察：詳察細(xì)辨。

　　9、有別：辨別是非正邪。本文來(lái)源:考試大網(wǎng)

　　10、溥愽淵泉：溥愽：遼闊廣大。溥，普遍，遼闊。淵泉，深潭。《列子•黃帝》：“心如淵泉，形如處女。”后引申為思慮深遠(yuǎn)。而時(shí)出之：出，溢出。

　　11、見(jiàn)(xian)：表現(xiàn)。指儀容。

　　12、說(shuō)：通“悅”，喜悅。

　　13、洋溢：廣泛傳播。

　　14、施及蠻貊：施及，蔓延，傳到。蠻貊，古代兩個(gè)邊遠(yuǎn)部族的名稱(chēng)。

　　15、隊(duì)：通“墜”，墜落。

　　16、尊親：尊重親近。
