When 3-year-old Ava Lewis decided to start a lemonade stand this summer, the Durham, NC, tot knew just where her profits would go.

“I want to help babies,” Ava told her mom, Maggie, when the two began plotting the sweet endeavor earlier this summer.

They decided to put the money from their stand toward bottles and diapers for local babies in need. Now the charitable business is so successful, Ava has had to scale up from just selling cups.

“One lady jumped out the car and said, ‘I wanna get some gallons,’ ” Maggie tells ABC11.

Ava, her mom and grandmother tested recipes and built the stand, which they parked outside the hair salon Maggie has owned for 11 years. Thirsty fans started lining up once they heard where the money was going.

On Monday, Ava’s crew had made enough money that she was able to meet her goal, buying diapers and wipes and donating them to Durham Rescue Mission’s Good Samaritan Inn, a transitional housing facility for women and children.

“It just means the world to us to see a young person, 3 years old, that is thinking about others,” the facility’s director, Gail Mills, tells ABC.

Now Ava’s got her own logo and Facebook page and is hosting a “Sip & Read” eventthis Sunday with a North Carolina children’s book author.

She’s also earned herself a new nickname: “The Lemonade Baby.” That’s what Maggie has been calling her daughter since their stand went viral. “I said I was going to retire at 40,” says Maggie. “I guess Ava is going to have me retire sooner than that.”

Ava isn’t the only kid making lemonade for good: In Colorado this summer, 6-year-old Brady Campbell also started a lemonade stand, to fulfill his dad’s dying wish after he lost a battle with colon cancer. In Lexington, NC, tween sisters Hailey and Hannah Hager started a lemonade stand this year to help pay off their local school district’s $41,000 lunch debt.
