Hunan University，situated at the foot of the picturesque Yuelu Mountain in Changsha，Hunan Province，is one of the key universities affiliated with the Ministry of Education. It is a time-honored key university in China，originating from Yuelu Academy and is now included in China's“Project 211”and“Project 985”for priority investment and construction.

湖南大學(xué)坐落在湖南省長沙市風(fēng)景秀麗的岳麓山下，是由岳麓書院衍續(xù)至今、辦學(xué)歷史悠久的全國重點(diǎn)大學(xué)，是直屬國家教育部、列入國家"211工程”、"985工程”重點(diǎn)投資和建設(shè)的高等學(xué)府。

Hunan University is now a comprehensive and well-coordinated university fea- turfing studies in engineering，with a strong foundation in science，a unique cultural background in liberal arts and its own characteristics in economics. It has now 29 colleges and departments and a graduate school，offering 57 undergraduate programs，171 master programs，12 first-order disciplines authorized to confer Ph. D degrees，69 second-order disciplines authorized to confer Ph. D. degrees and 12 post-doctoral research centers. It has 6 academic degree authorizations，1 national research center for engineering technology，1 state key laboratory，2 key laboratoties of the Ministry of Education and 1 center for environmental technology funded through international cooperation.

It has a staff of over 4 700，of which are more than 1 200 full and associate professors，4 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences，7 academicians of Chinese Academy of the Engineering，8 members of the state“millon talents program"，5 national-level members of the state "Talent Project for the New Century" and 6 professors invited on“Cheungkong Scholars Program" and 5 lecture professors.

現(xiàn)有教職工4 700多人，其中教授、副教授1 200余人，中科院院士4名，工程院院士7名，國家“百千萬人才工程”第一、二層次人選8人，國家“跨世紀(jì)優(yōu)秀人才支持計(jì)一劃”5人，“長江學(xué)者”特聘教授6人，講座教授5人。

The student body totals nearly 30 000，including 21 690 undergraduates and 8 400 postgraduates.

It covers a total area of 1 600 000 square meters with a construction area of over 1 030 000 square meters. The university library has a collection of 3 600 000 volumes and has realized automatic management with on-line information retrieval and literature transmission services. It has also built the trunk network of its Campus Computer Networks and has set up interactive network teaching platforms centered on multi-media coursewares.

976 Hunan University's predecessor-Yuelu Academy-was founded.

976年湖南大學(xué)的前身岳麓朽院創(chuàng)立

1903 Yuelu Academy and Hunan Capital Grand School were merged to form Hunan Institute of Higher Learning.

1903年岳麓卜院與湖南省城人學(xué)堂合并成立湖南高等學(xué)堂

1926 It was officially named Provincial Hunan University.

1926年湖南高等學(xué)堂更名為省立湖南大學(xué)

1937 It was upgraded to National Hunan University.

1937年更名為國立湖南大學(xué)

1949 It was renamed Hunan University.

1949年更名為湖南大學(xué)。

2000 Hunan University and Hunan College of Finance and Economics were merged to form a new Hunan University.

2002 Hunan Computer College was merged into the university.
