Joining Students’ Union
A: 祝賀你當(dāng)上了學(xué)生干部！
A: Congratulations on your becoming a student leader!
B: 謝謝！可是你知道，在我剛開始被告知自己已被提名為學(xué)生會(huì)主席的三個(gè)候選人之一時(shí)，我猶豫了好長(zhǎng)一段時(shí)間。我過去認(rèn)為，而且現(xiàn)在也認(rèn)為，大學(xué)生應(yīng)該把他的多數(shù)時(shí)間和精力用于學(xué)習(xí)，而不是卷入紛繁復(fù)雜的社交活動(dòng)中去。
B: Thank you! But you know, when I was first told that I had been nominated for one of the three candidates of the chairman of Students’ Union, I hesitated a long time. I used to think, and I still think, a college student should apply most of his time and energy to the study in stead of plunging into a social whirl.
A: 我想我不同意你的觀點(diǎn)。如今的青年人不僅應(yīng)該學(xué)習(xí)好，得高分，還應(yīng)該能夠獨(dú)立地成功處理和應(yīng)付各種形勢(shì)和局面。身為一名學(xué)生干部，你可以得到許多這方面的鍛煉。你沒有改變主意嗎？你當(dāng)然是改變了。
A: I’m afraid I don’t agree with you on that. Youth today should not only study well and gain high marks, they should also be able to deal with all kinds of situations successfully, and all by himself. Being a student leader, you can get a lot of training on that. Didn’t you change your mind? You did, of course.
B: 我原本打算放棄參加競(jìng)選，因?yàn)槲矣糜诎嗌瞎珓?wù)的時(shí)間和精力已經(jīng)夠多的了。可是后來我的班主任老師和學(xué)校學(xué)生工作處的幾位老師找我談了好幾次話。
B: I originally was going to give up joining in the election campaign because I had dedicated a lot of time and energy to the public affairs in my class. Later, however, the teacher in charge of my class and some other teachers in the college management concerning students’ affairs had several talks with me.
A: 是嗎？他們都說些什么？
A: Oh really? What did they say then?
B:與你剛才說的一樣。他們勸我別放棄鍛煉自己的組織能力和社會(huì)工作能力的機(jī)會(huì)。他們說，一個(gè)大學(xué)生不應(yīng)該只關(guān)心自己的學(xué)習(xí)，也應(yīng)該注意自己在其他一些方面能力的提高。
B: Just as you said a moment ago. They advised me not to lose the opportunity to train my abilities in organization and social work. They said that a college student shouldn’t get concerned only about his own study. He should also pay attention to the improvement of his competency in some other aspects.
