但丁·羅塞蒂（Dante Gabriel Rossetti，1828-1882），英國十九世紀的畫家兼詩人。他的詩中有濃郁的繪畫色彩，畫中又有詩歌的朦朧意境，二者均表現(xiàn)出唯美主義特征，是英國唯美主義詩歌和藝術的代表。1848年，他和同學組成“先拉斐爾兄弟會”，崇尚文藝復興以前或文藝復興早期的文藝精神，講究簡潔而突出純色調效果的藝術。他的詩歌強調聲音、光線、色彩的效果，取材自然，感情真摯，有一種夢幻的意境。詩作中也常有神秘主義和濃厚的宗教色彩，有象征意味?！兜巧咸焯玫呐伞肥撬钪脑娮髦?。

上了天堂的女郎倚著

The blessed damozel leaned out

黃金的欄桿探身；

From the gold bar of heaven;

她兩只眼睛比黃昏的時候

Her eyes were deeper than the depth

寧靜的溪水更深沉；

Of waters stilled at even;

她手里拈著三枝百合花，

She had three lilies in her hand,

柔發(fā)里有七顆星辰。

And the stars in her hair were seven.

她的晨衣上下松了扣，

Her robe, ungirt from clasp to hem,

沒有精致的花飾，

No wrought flowers did adorn,

卻戴著圣母送的白玫瑰，

But a white rose of Mary's gift,

好用來待奉上帝；

For service meetly worn;

她的頭發(fā)在背后垂下，

Her hair that lay along her back

金黃如成熟的谷粒。

Was yellow like ripe corn.

她覺得她參加上帝的唱詩班

Herseemed she scarce had been a day

還不到一天時間；

One of God's choristers ;

驚異的情緒還沒有完全

The wonder was not yet quite gone

離開她沉靜的容顏；

From that still look of hers;

盡管對留在人世的人們

Albeit, to them she left, her day

這一天等于十年。

Had counted as ten years.

那是上帝居處的宮闕，

It was the rampart of God's house

她就站立在宮墻上；

That she was standing on;

上帝把墻垣建在無窮

By God built over the sheer depth

深邃的空間上方；

The which is Space begun;

高到極處，從那里向下看，

So high, that looking downward thence

她難以見到太陽。

She scarce could see the sun.

墻垣橫臥在天國如橋梁，

It lies in heaven, across the flood

跨過浩瀚的太空。

Of ether, as a bridge.

下面，日潮與夜汐以火焰

Beneath the tides of day and night

和黑暗給太虛筑壟，

With flame and darkness ridge

茫茫低處，地球在旋轉，

The void, as low as where this earth

像只煩躁的蠓蟲。

Spins like a fretful midge .

她幾乎沒聽見，新交的友伴中，

Around her, lovers, newly met

有幾個沉迷于游戲，

Mid deathless love's acclaims,

同時不斷地互相呼叫著

Spoke evermore among themselves

她們貞潔的名字；

Their heart-remembered names;

那些升向上帝的魂靈

And the souls mounting up to God

像薄焰飄過她身體。

Went by her like thin flames.

從那令人迷醉的環(huán)境中，

And still she bowed herself and stooped

她依然探身向下看；

Out of the circling charm;

Until her bosom must have made

憑倚的欄桿焐暖，

The bar she leaned on warm,

那幾枝百合花仿佛入睡了，

And the lilies lay as if asleep

從天堂固定的一地她看見

From the fixed place of heaven she saw

時間如脈搏強烈，

Time like a pulse shake fierce

Through all the worlds. Her gaze still strove

Within the gulf to pierce

Its path; and now she spoke as when

The stars sang in their spheres.

太陽不見了；半輪彎月

The sun was gone now; the curled moon

像一片小小的羽翮

Was like a little feather

遠遠地落入深淵，她說話，

Fluttering far down the gulf; and now

聲音從晴空透過，

She spoke through the still weather.

她的嗓音像星星的歌聲，

Her voice was like the voice the stars

Had when they sang together.

Strove not her accents there,

Fain to be harkened? When those bells

Strove not her steps to reach my side

Have I not prayed in heaven?—on earth,

倆人都禱告不最有力量么？

Are not two prayers a perfect strength?

我還要害怕什么？

And shall I feel afraid?

“當他的頭上繞一圈光環(huán)，

When round his head the aureole clings,

他身上穿著白衣，

And he is clothed in white,

我就和他手攙手一同

I'll take his hand and go with him

走進無底的光源里；

To the deep wells of light;

我們倆走下去像到溪水中

As unto a stream we will step down,

在上帝眼前沐浴。

And bathe there in God's sight.

“我們倆會站在那隱蔽難覓、

We two will stand beside that shrine,

渺無人跡的神龕旁，

Occult , withheld, untrod,

對上帝的禱告使得神龕前

Whose lamps are stirred continually

燈光不斷地動蕩；

With prayer sent up to God;

我們倆舊日的祈求被允準了，

And see our old prayers, granted, melt

化為小朵云而消亡。

Each like a little cloud.

“我們倆會雙雙在那神秘的

We two will lie i'the shadow of

生命樹綠蔭里躺下來，

That living mystic tree

有時在生命樹生長的幽秘處

Within whose secret growth the Dove

可感到圣靈的存在，

Is sometimes felt to be,

While every leaf that His plumes touch

Saith His Name audibly.

And I myself will teach to him,

Bowed with their aureoles;

And angels meeting us shall sing

To their citherns and citoles.

“我會向我主基督提要求，

There will I ask of Christ the Lord

為他也為我自己：——

Thus much for him and me—

但愿像曾經(jīng)在下界那樣

Only to live as once on earth

彼此相愛不分離，

With Love—only to be,

我和他，那時只有片刻長，

As then awhile, forever now,

今后永遠在一起。”

The light thrilled toward her, filled

眾天使強勁地橫飛而去，

With angels in strong, level flight.

她眼睛祈禱，露笑顏。

Her eyes prayed, and she smiled.

（我見她笑了。）天使們轉瞬間

(I saw her smile.) But soon their path

隱入遙遠的星際：

Was vague in distant spheres;

此時她憑著黃金欄桿

And then she cast her arms along

猛然伸出了雙臂，

The golden barriers,

她把臉掩在兩手中，哭了。

And laid her face between her hands,
