阿諾德（Matthew Arnold，1822-1888），英國十九世紀(jì)著名的詩人和評論家。他的詩反映了工業(yè)化時(shí)期人們的精神狀態(tài)，評論文章多涉及現(xiàn)代工業(yè)文明中人們的精神困惑和苦悶，被認(rèn)為是十九世紀(jì)最具有現(xiàn)代意識的文人。阿諾德早期以創(chuàng)作詩歌為主，出版過多部詩集，著名的詩作有《色希斯》、《多佛爾海灘》、《拉格比教堂》等抒情詩，以及敘事詩《索萊布和羅斯托》。他的詩清晰明朗、質(zhì)樸無華，富于人情味，充滿哲理和古典韻味。

The sea is calm tonight.

The tide is full, the moon lies fair
