這首歌是南宋以來(lái)流行于江南吳地一帶的民歌。出自南宋建炎年間（1127—1130年），述民間離亂之苦。這首歌以問(wèn)話(huà)的形式，揭露南宋統(tǒng)治階級(jí)在外族入侵時(shí)，對(duì)外實(shí)行不抵抗主義，對(duì)內(nèi)殘酷壓迫人民，偏安江南，過(guò)著驕奢淫逸的生活，使老百姓飽受離亂之苦。
