Santa Decca

The Gods are dead: no longer do we bring

To grey-eyed Pallas crowns of olive-leaves!

Demeter's child no more hath tithe of sheaves,

And in the noon the careless shepherds sing,

For Pan is dead, and all the wantoning

By secret glade and devious haunt is o'er:

Young Hylas seeks the water-springs no more;

Great Pan is dead, and Mary's Son is King.



And yet—perchance in this sea-trancèd isle,

Chewing the bitter fruit of memory,

Some God lies hidden in the asphodel.

Ah Love! if such there be then it were well

For us to fly his anger: nay, but see

The leaves are stirring: let us watch a-while.

諸神已死：我們不再用橄欖樹(shù)的枝葉

為灰眼睛的帕拉斯編織王冠！

得墨忒爾的孩子也無(wú)須為谷物納稅，

而正午無(wú)憂無(wú)慮的牧羊人在歌唱，

因?yàn)榕松褚阉?，而在秘密的沼?br />
和偏僻場(chǎng)所嬉戲的一切都已結(jié)束：

年輕的海拉斯不再尋找噴泉；

偉大的潘神已死，瑪利亞的兒子成了國(guó)王。



不過(guò)，——偶或在海水恍惚的小島上，

某個(gè)天神躲藏在日光蘭中，

在細(xì)細(xì)咀嚼回憶的苦果。

哦，愛(ài)神！倘若果真如此，最好

讓我們來(lái)用甘泉澆滅他的怒火：哦不，

你看樹(shù)葉在顫動(dòng)：我們且等一下。
