南極一座冰山倒了 導(dǎo)致15萬只企鵝死亡

An enormous iceberg in Antarctica has killed off150,000 penguins and threatens to wipe out anentire colony, which has become trapped andunable to reach food.

A study by researchers from New Zealand andAustralia said only about 10,000 Adélie penguinshave survived after an iceberg – labelled B09B -grounded in a bay in 2010.

一項來自新西蘭和澳大利亞兩國研究人員的研究成果顯示，自從2010年一座編號為B09B的冰山在南極洲海灣擱淺以來，只有約1萬只阿德利企鵝幸存。

The grounding, at Commonwealth Bay, has forced the penguins to make a 70-mile roundtrip to feed in the sea.

The iceberg is about 60 miles long and 1,120 square miles in size – larger thanLuxembourg. It had apparently been floating around the coast for 20 years before crashing intoa glacier and becoming stuck.

Penguin numbers have been recorded for more than a century.

"It's eerily silent now," said Professor Chris Turney, from the University of New South Wales.
