第五十九課 博阿迪西亞

When the British warrior Queen,

勇敢的英國(guó)女王，

Bleeding from the Roman rods,

對(duì)羅馬的暴政深?lèi)和唇^，

Sought, with an indignant mien,

她一副憤怒的樣子，

Counsel of her country's gods

去詢(xún)問(wèn)國(guó)家眾神的代言人：

Sage beneath a spreading oak

德魯伊是最年長(zhǎng)眾神代言人之一，

Sat the Druid, hoary chief;

他坐在一棵枝繁葉茂的橡樹(shù)下，

Every burning word he spoke full of rage and full of grief —

他說(shuō)的每句話都充滿憤怒和悲痛：——

Princess! if our aged eyes

“殿下！如果我們這些老者要落淚，

Weep upon thy matchless wrongs,

為您的大過(guò)錯(cuò)哭泣，

'Tis because resentment ties all the terrors of our tongues.

那都是因?yàn)閼嵟?rdquo;

Rome shall perish! —write that word in the blood that she has spilt!

必須要讓羅馬滅亡！——她用血寫(xiě)下了這句話！

Perish, hopeless and abhorred,

滅亡，沒(méi)有希望，憤恨，

Deep in ruin as in guilt.

Rome, for empire far renowned, tramples on a thousand states;

“羅馬的君王因侵略多個(gè)國(guó)家而聲名遠(yuǎn)播；

Soon her pride shall kiss the ground—

不久之后她就會(huì)受盡屈辱——

Hark! the Gaul is at her gates!

聽(tīng)！高盧人已經(jīng)近在咫尺！

Other Romans shall arise,

其它羅馬人出現(xiàn)了，

Heedless of a soldier's name;

無(wú)心留意某個(gè)士兵的姓名；

Sounds, not arms, shall win the prize,

能獲獎(jiǎng)的應(yīng)該是聲樂(lè)而不是武器，

Harmony the path to fame.

和諧相處才是名揚(yáng)四海的正道。”
