The banker recoiled in horror. "I should not dream of trying," said he.

那銀行家驚慌地往后退縮。他說："我連做夢也不敢去掰它。"

"Then I will." Holmes suddenly bent his strength upon it, but without result.

"那么我來試試，"福爾摩斯猛然用足力氣去掰它，但是紋絲不動。

"I feel it give a little," said he; "but, though I am exceptionally strong in the fingers, it would take me all my time to break it.

"我覺得它有點松動，"他說，"但是，雖然我的手指特別有勁，要掰開它也很費事。

An ordinary man could not do it. Now, what do you think would happen if I did break it, Mr. Holder?
