英語早間課堂:教您一招說合作(2)
既然是合作，我們?cè)谂c他人合作的時(shí)候，有時(shí)候也必須遷就對(duì)方的意愿，不可能事事都“如己所愿”。即使我們存有保留意見，我們要學(xué)會(huì)“遷就”這門學(xué)問，不能時(shí)時(shí)事事按自己的意愿行事。否則，我們的合作是失敗的，一旦合作失敗，我們就“朋友”變成了“敵人”。失敗的合作是引起“唇槍舌戰(zhàn)”的導(dǎo)火索，甚至是將來“暗箭傷人”的導(dǎo)火索。
今天，我們就來看看“按照別人的意愿辦事”在英文中用一個(gè)有趣的詞語如何來說。我們就先來聽下面的2個(gè)句子：
例句-1：We need the Committee's approval for this scheme. Do you think they'llplay ballwith us.
例句-2：She wanted me to go to Scotland by car with her so that her holiday would cost less, but I wouldnot play ballwith her.
從我們剛才聽到的這2個(gè)句子中，都可以聽到同一個(gè)詞語：play ball。這是一條動(dòng)詞性習(xí)慣用語。習(xí)語中的play是“玩”的意思，ball是指“球”，play ball的意思當(dāng)然就是“打球”了。除了“打球”這個(gè)意思外，它還有作為習(xí)慣用語的意思，意思是to agree to do something the way someone else wants you to(按照某人的意愿行事)。要強(qiáng)調(diào)“按照某人的意愿行事”中的“某人”二字的意思，在短語的后面加上介詞with即可，即：play ball with sb。
我們?cè)偻ㄟ^4個(gè)例句來體會(huì)這個(gè)習(xí)語的意思和運(yùn)用這個(gè)習(xí)語：
1.He is very helpful and it is easy toplay ball withhim.他非?？蠋兔?，與他合作很容易。

譯文：作為一個(gè)總統(tǒng)， 為了讓國(guó)會(huì)通過他的計(jì)劃，有的時(shí)候也不得不和反對(duì)黨的成員合作，給他們一些好處，以換取他們的選票。

Eg.He has passed through a college for years but now he is still between the jobs.他已經(jīng)大學(xué)畢業(yè)多年了，但是如今還是沒有找到工作。
附注2：opposing party：反對(duì)黨，(法律)對(duì)方當(dāng)事人
附注3：do sb a favor：給予某人恩惠，給某人好處，幫助某人
Eg.It's sound policy to do a favor before seeking one.先助人后求助是良策。
Eg.Would you do me a favor to translate it into Chinese?你能不能幫忙翻譯成漢語?
附注4：in return：作為回報(bào)，作為報(bào)答
Eg. Ibought him a drink in return for his help.我請(qǐng)他喝酒以酬謝他的幫助.
Eg.What do we give them in return?我們以什么來報(bào)答他們呢?
我們現(xiàn)在知道最初聽到的2個(gè)例句中的關(guān)鍵詞語的意思，現(xiàn)在我們就回到它們中來看看他們的意思。
例句-1：We need the Committee's approval for this scheme. Do you think they'll play ball with us?
這句話是說：我們的這項(xiàng)計(jì)劃需要委員會(huì)的同意，你認(rèn)為他們會(huì)和我們合作嗎?
