例句-1：John pluck up his courage to make an offer of marrage to the girl's father.

例句-2：The guy who made an offer of marriage to my sisiter is an electronic engineer.

在我們剛才聽到的2個例句中，我們都可以聽到同一個詞語：make an offer of marrieage。Make在這個短語中的意思是put forward(提出要求請求)。 Offer是“提議”的意思，marriage指“婚姻”。那么，make an offer of marriage直譯意思就是“提出一個婚姻的提議”，意譯為“求婚”。用這個短語表述“向某人求婚”的意思，在短語的后面加上介詞to即可，即：make an offer of maariage to someone。
