英語(yǔ)早間課堂:鼻子下不是嘴巴嗎?

一周來(lái)都是繁重的功課，周末終于到了，Alice就到陸明的家中去玩，看到陸明在翻來(lái)翻去，似乎是在找什么東西。問(wèn)了了一下，才知道是在找語(yǔ)法書(shū)。Alice心想陸明這丟三落四的毛病什么時(shí)候才能改呀。她往桌上一看就看到陸明要找的東西，就善意地批評(píng)了陸明，陸明又頓時(shí)起了疑惑，心理又開(kāi)始琢磨起來(lái)了，而且蹦出了一句讓Alice捧腹大笑的話，我想，您聽(tīng)到，您也會(huì)捧腹大笑。那么到底Alice今天說(shuō)了什么讓陸明望文生義而引起的誤會(huì)呢?而陸明又蹦出了什么樣的笑話呢?下面我們就來(lái)看一下Alice在陸明家中他們倆的談話內(nèi)容。

Alice : What are you doing, Luming?

陸明，你在干什么?

Luming : I have been looking for my grammar book here and there.

我一直到處在找我的語(yǔ)法書(shū)。

Alice : Oh, it's just under the table, just right under your nose.

噢，它就在桌子下面呀，就在your nose下。

Luming : Under ... my... nose? It is a big mouth under my nose.

Under my nose? 在我的鼻子下? 我的鼻子下是嘴巴(不是語(yǔ)法書(shū))。

Alice : ( laughing ) You must be confused about the phrase "under your nose". It means "directly in front of you; clearly visible ".

(大笑)你一定是不了解under your nose的意思。它的意思就是你們中文中說(shuō)的“在眼皮子底下”。(就是指就在你的眼前，你沒(méi)看到，非常容易看到的。)

陸明不明白的地方是under one's nose。“Under one's nose”是英文中的一個(gè)成語(yǔ)。它的字面意思是“在某人的鼻子下”，和我們中文中的“在眼皮子底下”是一個(gè)意思。

正如Alice在對(duì)話中所言，"under one's nose" means "in plain view or directly in from of somebody "，就是指某物距離你很近，就在你面前，很容易找到看到。只不過(guò)英文中用“鼻子”這個(gè)字眼，而我們中文用“眼皮”這個(gè)字眼。

這個(gè)成語(yǔ)在運(yùn)用的時(shí)候可以在在nose 這個(gè)名詞前也可以加very進(jìn)行強(qiáng)調(diào)，即：under one's very nose?；蛘呤窃趗nder這個(gè)介詞前面加上just進(jìn)行強(qiáng)調(diào)，即：just under one's nose。

突然Alice 想起了有事情要告訴好友，于是便問(wèn)陸明電話在哪里，這回陸明可學(xué)乖了。此話怎講呢?我們先來(lái)看看他們倆的對(duì)話。

Alice : I want to make a phone call to Kate. Whare 's your phone?

我想給Kate打個(gè)電話，你的電話在哪呢?

Luming : Find it by yourself.This cartoon is very interesting,don't you watch it ?

你自己找吧，這個(gè)動(dòng)畫(huà)很有意思，你不看么?

Alice : Don't switch the conversation. I really have some urgent thing to tell her.

別轉(zhuǎn)移話題，我有急事要告訴她。

Luming : It's right under your nose. 就在你眼皮下邊呢。

Alice : Where ? 哪呢?

Luming : There. 在那!

Alice : Why do you put it in such a place? 你怎么把電話放在這里呢?

Luming : In case you steal it! 以防止你偷走呀!

此外，under one's nose還有“公然地，膽大包天地，膽大妄為地，目空一切地在某人眼皮底下做某事”的意思。我們來(lái)看下面的3個(gè)例子：

Eg. The two thieves stole the paintings under the guards' noses and took them out just under the guards' noses in the end.

這2個(gè)小偷竟然敢在這么多警衛(wèi)眼皮子底下偷畫(huà)，最后還是在數(shù)名警衛(wèi)的眼皮子底下拿了出來(lái)。

Eg. How can you dare to read a novel under the teacher's eyes? You deserve it!

你竟敢在老師的眼皮子底下看小說(shuō)?你活該!

Eg. That dragon lady have three gigolo under her husband's nose.

那位女強(qiáng)人當(dāng)著丈夫的面，公開(kāi)有三位小白臉。
