第一、“不到關(guān)鍵時(shí)刻不要亮出你的絕招。”也就是說直到關(guān)鍵時(shí)刻才亮出絕招。“直到...才”的短語是not...until...例如：Not until we lose health do we know its value.我們直到失去健康才知道健康的價(jià)值。Not until his friend offered to help could he do it.他的朋友幫助他，他才有辦法做那事。

上面的2個(gè)例句都是倒裝句。如果是要對(duì)含有not...until...這個(gè)短語的句子進(jìn)行倒裝，分為二個(gè)步驟。第一步驟是將“not untill”提到句首，主句的助動(dòng)詞或者是情態(tài)動(dòng)詞等省略。第二步驟是從句的助動(dòng)詞，情態(tài)動(dòng)詞等提到從句的句首。例如第一句：“Not until we lose health do we know it's value.”的正常語序是“We don't lose health until we know its value.”主句是we don't lose health，從句是until we know it's value。那么我們把not until這2個(gè)詞語提出來放到句子的開頭，即：Not until，然后把主句中的助動(dòng)詞do刪除，再接上主句we lose health。接下來是個(gè)難點(diǎn)了，從句we know it's value中沒有助動(dòng)詞或者是情態(tài)動(dòng)詞等，那么我們知道就加上一個(gè)助動(dòng)詞，do，最后接上從句we know it's value. 像第二個(gè)例句中Not until his friend offered to help could he do it.中的從句有助動(dòng)詞could，那么就把它放到從句的句首。

有的朋友在the critical moment前用介詞at，at the critical moment。整個(gè)句子句法是沒錯(cuò)，但是句子意思和我們要表達(dá)的意思恰好相反。Don't play your ace in the hole at the critical moment. 在關(guān)鍵時(shí)刻不要用絕招。句子要表達(dá)的意思是在關(guān)鍵時(shí)刻用絕招。

第二、掌握“亮出絕招”的短語。“亮出絕招”也就是說使出“錦囊妙計(jì)”，“打出最后一張王牌”。由于ace in the hole來源于玩牌的游戲，我們說“打牌”是“play cards”，“ace”也紙牌中最大的一張牌的意思，所以這個(gè)“使出”“打出”用“play”，play one's ace in the hole。例如：In the end, he, a lawyer, played his ace in the hole—— an unknown eyewitness at court that he won this case for his friend. 他最后在法庭上使出一張王牌——一個(gè)不為人知的目擊者，幫他朋友打贏了這場官司。
