英語早間課堂:話說地道美語 Lesson 17(3)

我們來看第一大題，題目要求是根據(jù)中文完成句子。第一小題是—— 恐怖分子把那些人質(zhì)當(dāng)做他們手中的王牌。The terrorists the hostages ace in the hole.

參考答案如下：regarded，as，an。完整的句子為：The terrorists regarded the hostages as an ace in the hole.

正確完成這道題，有兩個(gè)要點(diǎn)。第一是掌握“把......當(dāng)做”“把......視為”“把......看做”的短語。該題是使用regard...as這個(gè)短語。表述這個(gè)意思的短語還有很多，下面我們就來看看。

1. look upon/on sth/sb as sth/sb It means "to consider something (or somebody) to be something (or somebody)". For example: She's looked upon as the leading authority on the subject. 她被視為這門學(xué)科的權(quán)威人士。

有的朋友在習(xí)題中用到了look on with這個(gè)短語，這個(gè)短語是“以...看待”的意思，不是“把...看作”的意思。It means "to consider sb/sth in a particular way. For example: They looked on his behaviour with contempt. 他們對(duì)他的行為不屑一顧。

2. view sb/sth as sb/sth It means "to think about sb/sth to be sb/sth". For example: When the car was first built, the design was viewed as highly original. 這輛車剛出時(shí)，其設(shè)計(jì)被看作是獨(dú)具匠心。 同樣也有朋友用到view...with這個(gè)短語。這個(gè)短語同look upon...with一樣是(以某種方式)“看待”的意思。For example: She views him with suspicion. 她以懷疑的目光看待他。

3. take sb/sth as sb/sthIt means "to have a opinion of somthing". For example: She took what he's said as a compliment. 她把他所說的當(dāng)做是榮譽(yù)。

很多朋友們用到了take...for這個(gè)短語。Take ...for這個(gè)短語是有把...看作的意思，但是它側(cè)重于指“把...錯(cuò)誤地認(rèn)為”，“把...錯(cuò)誤地看作”。It means "consider somebody or something to be somebody or something when you are wrong". 意思是誤認(rèn)為。Look at the following sentences: Even the experts took the painting for a genuine Van Gogh. 甚至是專家都把這畫看做是Van Gogh的真跡。I took the woman with you for your sister. 我誤認(rèn)為和你在一起的那個(gè)人時(shí)你姐姐。Of course I didn't do it! What do you take me for? 那件事當(dāng)然不是我干的。你把我當(dāng)成什么人呀?

作為consider這個(gè)意思講時(shí)，有一個(gè)短語我們可以積累。它是taken overall，意思是總的看來。例如：Taken overall, our performance is a success. 總的看來，我們的演出是成功的。

4. consider sb/sth (as) sb/sthIt means "to have a opinion of something". For example: This reward is considered as a great honour. 這項(xiàng)獎(jiǎng)被視為極大的榮譽(yù)。He considers himself an expert on this subject. 他把自己看做是這門學(xué)科的專家。如果細(xì)心的朋友會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)第二個(gè)例句少了as這個(gè)單詞，是個(gè)病句。不是的，consider sb/sth as sb/sth這個(gè)動(dòng)詞短語結(jié)構(gòu)中的as時(shí)可以省略的。那么consider...as與consider... to be等同。例如剛才的第一個(gè)例句“This reward is considered as a great honour.”可以說為"This reward is considered to be a great honour." 同樣句中的to be可以省略。

第二，就是注意不定冠詞在名詞前如果這個(gè)名詞的音標(biāo)的第一個(gè)音標(biāo)是元音的話，就要用an，不要用a。
