英語早間課堂:話說地道美語 Lesson 17(3)

我們來看第一大題，題目要求是根據(jù)中文完成句子。第一小題是—— 恐怖分子把那些人質當做他們手中的王牌。The terrorists the hostages ace in the hole.

參考答案如下：regarded，as，an。完整的句子為：The terrorists regarded the hostages as an ace in the hole.

正確完成這道題，有兩個要點。第一是掌握“把......當做”“把......視為”“把......看做”的短語。該題是使用regard...as這個短語。表述這個意思的短語還有很多，下面我們就來看看。

1. look upon/on sth/sb as sth/sb It means "to consider something (or somebody) to be something (or somebody)". For example: She's looked upon as the leading authority on the subject. 她被視為這門學科的權威人士。

有的朋友在習題中用到了look on with這個短語，這個短語是“以...看待”的意思，不是“把...看作”的意思。It means "to consider sb/sth in a particular way. For example: They looked on his behaviour with contempt. 他們對他的行為不屑一顧。

2. view sb/sth as sb/sth It means "to think about sb/sth to be sb/sth". For example: When the car was first built, the design was viewed as highly original. 這輛車剛出時，其設計被看作是獨具匠心。 同樣也有朋友用到view...with這個短語。這個短語同look upon...with一樣是(以某種方式)“看待”的意思。For example: She views him with suspicion. 她以懷疑的目光看待他。

3. take sb/sth as sb/sthIt means "to have a opinion of somthing". For example: She took what he's said as a compliment. 她把他所說的當做是榮譽。

很多朋友們用到了take...for這個短語。Take ...for這個短語是有把...看作的意思，但是它側重于指“把...錯誤地認為”，“把...錯誤地看作”。It means "consider somebody or something to be somebody or something when you are wrong". 意思是誤認為。Look at the following sentences: Even the experts took the painting for a genuine Van Gogh. 甚至是專家都把這畫看做是Van Gogh的真跡。I took the woman with you for your sister. 我誤認為和你在一起的那個人時你姐姐。Of course I didn't do it! What do you take me for? 那件事當然不是我干的。你把我當成什么人呀?

作為consider這個意思講時，有一個短語我們可以積累。它是taken overall，意思是總的看來。例如：Taken overall, our performance is a success. 總的看來，我們的演出是成功的。

4. consider sb/sth (as) sb/sthIt means "to have a opinion of something". For example: This reward is considered as a great honour. 這項獎被視為極大的榮譽。He considers himself an expert on this subject. 他把自己看做是這門學科的專家。如果細心的朋友會發(fā)現(xiàn)第二個例句少了as這個單詞，是個病句。不是的，consider sb/sth as sb/sth這個動詞短語結構中的as時可以省略的。那么consider...as與consider... to be等同。例如剛才的第一個例句“This reward is considered as a great honour.”可以說為"This reward is considered to be a great honour." 同樣句中的to be可以省略。

第二，就是注意不定冠詞在名詞前如果這個名詞的音標的第一個音標是元音的話，就要用an，不要用a。
