【復習回顧】

上次我們說道了strange, surprising, natural, unthinkable等一些形容用于主語從句的主句中做表語，那么后面跟的主語從句要使用虛擬語氣，而且主語從句表示出說話者或是作者的一種對某事感到不可思議的感情色彩。

【習題答案及點評】

1 真想不到，那家公司會倒閉。

It is unthinkable that the company go bankrupt.

【點評】

[陷阱提示] that the company go bankrupt這個主語從句省略了情態(tài)動詞should，因此是go這個動詞的原形，大家可不要畫蛇添足，給它加個尾巴es。

[單詞詳析] {生詞} bankrupt [?b??kr?pt] {中英雙解} It means " without enough money to pay what you owe". 譯為：倒閉的，破產的。{ 例句 } They went bankrupt in 1993. 他們于1993年破產。

[短語詳析] go bankrupt 破產，倒閉，go在這里是作為系動詞用了，意為：變得。這個短語跟be bankrupt是有區(qū)別的，這個區(qū)別想必大家都清楚了，go bankrupt 是表示一種狀態(tài)的轉變，強調動作，而be bankrupt是指這種狀態(tài)。 2 做哥哥的他，萬萬不能坐視呀!

It is unthinkable that he , her elder brother, stand aside and not intervene.

【點評】

[陷阱提示] that he elder brother, stand aside and not intervene這個主語從句中在stand 和 not 前省略了情態(tài)動詞should。本應該是：that he , her elder brother, should stand aside, 省略了should，那就是stand了，不要看到主語是he第三那人稱單數he，就畫蛇添足給stand加個小尾巴“s”。此外，and這個并列連詞連接了2個并列謂語，是stand aside 和 intervene, 由于又要對intervene進行否定，即：not intervene,那么這樣還不行呀，還需要助動詞或者是情態(tài)動詞之類的構成否定結構的謂語呀，那么在這里有and在，它就和前面的stand aside共同分享一個情態(tài)動詞should, 也就是說是：should not intervene.那么把should 省略，是不是就是not intervene了呢?這樣一說，大家的疑惑解開了嗎?

[生詞詳解] intervene [?int??vi:n] { 中英雙解} It means " become involed in a situation in order to improve it or help it " . 譯為：干涉，干預，介入，出面。{ 用法 } 它和介詞“in”連用，表示“干預某事，出面介入某事”。{ 例句 } The President intervened personally in the crises. 總理親自出面處理這場危機。(注意：president的第一個字母“p”要大些。)She might have been killed if the neighbours hadn't intervened. 要不是鄰居的介入，她可能就沒命兒了。

[短語翻譯] an elder brother 哥哥 stand aside 站在一邊[句法] her elder brother 是做主語he的同位語。

3 我們現有的力量不能分散。

It is impossible that force we have be divided.

【點評】

[陷阱提示] that force we have be divided 這個主語從句中本應該是that force we have should be divided, 翻譯中省略should，因此就是be了，可不要看到主語是force，就把be改成is。

[句法] that force we have be divided 這個主語從句中有個定語從句：we have. 這個定語從句省略了關系代詞that. 這里注意可不能說是省略了關系代詞which.當關系代詞作賓語是只能是that,不能用which. 即：that force which we have be divided這樣是錯誤的，正確的是that force that we have be divided 這樣才是正確的。至于這點我們在今后的早間課堂中會講到。

4 不能避免使用啟發(fā)性的問題。

It is impossible that the use of leading questions be avoided.

【點評】

[陷阱提示] that the use of leading questions be avoided這個主語從句中的be的由來請參見第三道題中的[陷阱提示] 講解。

[單詞詳解] leading 在此句中是“引導性的”“啟發(fā)性的”意思，可是在牛津詞典里是沒有這個意思的。那么這個意思是怎么來的呢?有的人把leading直接看做形容詞，Juliet是把leading看做是動詞lead的現在分詞。Lead 是“帶路”“領路”的意思。例如：He lead us out into the garden. 他領我們出來進入了花園。那么線面這個句子又是什么意思呢?I tried to lead the discussion back to the main issue. 意思是：我力圖把討論引回到主要問題上。顯然這里是“引領，引導”的意思了。別小看這句話哦，這句話在英美文學中是采用了一種修飾方法——figurative [?figjur?tiv] 比喻的修飾方法。在“帶路，引路”的基本意思上引申出了“引領，引導”的意思。因此leading就有“引導性的”“啟發(fā)性的”意思了。

[短語翻譯] leading questions 引導性的問題，啟發(fā)性的問題5 真奇怪竟然有人相信這樣莫名奇妙的謠言。

It is surprising that anyone believe such a strange rumour.

【點評】

[陷阱提示] that anyone believe such a strange rumour這個主語從句中的believe的由來請參見習題2的陷阱提示詳解。

[生詞詳解] rumour [?ru:m?] (英式書寫)rumor [?ru:m?r] ( 美式書寫 ) {中英雙解} It means " a piece of information , or story , that people talk about , but may be not true ". 譯為：謠言，傳聞。這個詞呀在我們的口語中魔力挺大的。我們來看看吧。{ 用法 } rumour 作為名詞是和介詞of , about 連用，意思是：......的謠言，......的傳聞。例如：Some malicious rumours about his past are circulating[?s?:kjuleit] (傳播，流傳). 有些人別有用心地散布謠言，說他的過去如何如何。“道聽途說”怎么表達呢?我們來看一個例句或許能給您一些啟示。Many of the stories are based on rumor. 這些說法很多是道聽途說的。我們經常說“據說”“聽說”，那么rumoure這是就派上用場了：Rumour has it that ....... 這個句式在影視中用得很多很多。Let's look at an example sentence：Rumour has it that he is involved in this crime. 據說他卷入了這樁案件中。“到處都在傳某事兒”怎么說呢?可以用rumor, 但是這時它作為動詞用，還有用上我們近期所說的主語從句——It is widely rumoured that... For example: It's widely rumoured that she is getting promoted. 到處都在傳她升官了。

6 你在這么短的時間內把英語學習這么好，真讓人驚奇。

It is surprising that you learn English so well in such a short time.

【點評】

[ 短語詳析 ] in such a short time 在如此短的時間內 我們還有一個詞表示如此，是so，那么in so a short time 這樣說對嗎。不對，如果用so的話，so后面要緊跟形容詞，然后在接名詞，即：in so short a time.
