vii. 方式狀語從句和目的狀語從句

1. as if = as though意為 “好像，仿佛”，兩者用法相同，從句既可以用陳述語氣也可以用虛擬語氣。

It looks as if/as though it is going to rain.

天看上去要下雨。

He treats me as if I were a child .

她就像對待小孩子一樣對待我。

2. as意為“像……,猶如……,正如……，按照……”。

Please do it as I told you.

請按照我說的去做。

When in Rome do as the Romans do.

入鄉(xiāng)隨俗。

Just as water is the most important to fish, so is air to man.

正如水對魚來說是最重要的一樣，空氣對我們來說也是如此。

3. the way意為“……的方式/樣子”，相當(dāng)于the way （that/in which)，引導(dǎo)定語從句。

I don't like the way you treat me.

我不喜歡你對待我的那種方式。

He doesn't like the way I speak to him.

他不喜歡我對他說話的方式。

4. 目的狀語從句的謂語動詞通常含有may, might, can, could等情態(tài)動詞；從句若為否定句，謂語多用should結(jié)構(gòu)。

Study hard (so) that you can pass the entrance examination next year.

努力學(xué)習(xí)明年你就能考上大學(xué)。

Start early tomorrow in order that you should not arrive at the station late.

明天早點(diǎn)兒動身以便到火車站不會遲到。

5. lest, in case,和for fear (that)意為“以防”，引導(dǎo)目的狀語從句，從句中通常用虛擬語氣。

Take an umbrella with you in case it rains/should rain.

隨身帶把雨傘吧，以免天下雨。

She emphasized it again and again lest/for fear that he (should) forget .

她再三強(qiáng)調(diào)以免他忘記。

6. so that引導(dǎo)的從句通常位于主句之后；而in order that引導(dǎo)的從句可以位于主句的前后。

In order that everyone should hear him clearly, he spoke aloud.

為了大家都能聽清楚，他提高了嗓門。

7. so that既可以引導(dǎo)目的狀語從句，也可以引導(dǎo)結(jié)果狀語從句。當(dāng)從句謂語中含有情態(tài)動詞時，該從句是目的狀語從句，若從句謂語不用情態(tài)動詞，而多用動詞過去時，該從句是結(jié)果狀語從句。

They study hard so that they can pass the college entrance examination this year.

他們努力學(xué)習(xí)以便能夠今年通過大學(xué)入學(xué)考試。

They studied hard so that they passed the college entrance examination last year.

他們學(xué)習(xí)很努力，結(jié)果去年考上了大學(xué)。

8. that, so都可以引導(dǎo)目的狀語從句。

Take this medicine (so) that you can recover soon.

吃了這藥，以便康復(fù)得更快。

Speak louder so (that) the people in the hall can all hear you.

大聲講，讓大廳里的人都能聽清楚。
