他一系列相關的推理堪稱異想天開和匠心獨運，不過我無暇詳述。

The result was, that he found the distemper to be incurable;

結果，他發(fā)現(xiàn)病異狀無法治愈，

but after much study, he thought he had discovered a method to divert the evil he could not subdue.

For this purpose, he caused a small building, about twelve feet square, to be erected in his garden,
