That bay down there, with its white sands and massive rocks, its still expanse of water,

腳下那片海灣沙灘潔白，岸邊巨石嶙峋，水面更見寬闊無邊，海灣上空，

and its background of mountain peaks palely covered by the yellow moonlight, seemed really a home for a magic princess who was shut off from all the world.

金黃色月光將山峰背景映成蒼白，好一處與世隔絕中極地公主的神奇家園。

But here, in front of them, was another sort of sea, and another sort of life, —a small fishing village hidden under a cloud of pale peat smoke,

眼前大海自有別樣迷人風(fēng)情，別樣不同生活，藏匿在隱綽泥炭炊煙下的小漁村里，

and fronting the great waters of the Atlantic itself, which lay under a gloom of violet clouds.

獨(dú)自面對(duì)浩瀚大西洋的驚濤駭浪，在紫色晦暗云團(tuán)下慵懶演繹一輪輪庸常歲月。

On the way home it was again Lavender’s good fortune to walk with Sheila across the moorland path they had traversed some little time before.

對(duì)萊維德來說，回家路上的他，真是再度幸運(yùn)光臨，能與希拉攜手走出先前頗費(fèi)艱難才跋涉穿過的一處沼澤地。

And now the moon was still higher in the heavens, and the yellow lane of light that crossed the violet waters of Loch Roag quivered in a deeper gold.

The night air was scented with the Dutch clover growing down by the shore.

They could hear the curlew whistling and the plover calling amid that monotonous plash of the waves that murmured all around the coast.

沙灘四周，海浪單調(diào)如一的拍打聲碎細(xì)呢喃，萊維德和希拉甚至還能聽到麻鷸的鳴啾，偶然夾雜鳳頭麥雞的求偶聲。

When they returned to the house, the darker waters of the Atlantic and the purple clouds of the west were shut out from sight;

希拉和萊維德回到家，西部邊陲大西洋更為黝黑的海面從他們眼中消失，同時(shí)消逝的還有天空眾多的紫色云團(tuán)，

and before them there was only the liquid plain of Loch Roag, with its pathway of yellow fire,

偌大平靜的洛赫羅格海灣鋪在面前；海水上空，一條亮麗的焰火之路延伸向遠(yuǎn)。

and far away on the other side the shoulders and peaks of the southern mountains,

越過南方綿亙山脈的山脊或巔峰。

that had grown gray and clear and sharp in the beautiful twilight. And this was Sheila’s home.

那片遙遠(yuǎn)地方呵，美麗極光不斷演繹著大自然神奇，時(shí)而晦暗幽深，時(shí)而熱烈清朗，時(shí)而驚詫莫名，那，就是希拉可愛的家園。
