And what insurgent rage had gained, In many a mortal fray maintained:
憤怒之火，在起義者心中早已點燃，維系著，以死抗爭的不滅信念。
Marshaled once more at Freedom's call,
自由在召喚，隊伍再度整齊，
They came to conquer or to fall,
征服敵人，抑或裹尸疆場，
Where he who conquered, he who fell.
廝殺聲中站立，吶喊聲里倒斃，
Was deemed a dead or living Tell!
視死如歸，生者死者的袒露秘密。
And now the work of life and death
生存抑或死亡，命懸一線，
Hung on the passing of a breath;
成功還是敗餒，須臾之間，
The fire of conflict burned within;
怒火滿腔，迸發(fā)出燃燒火焰，
The battle trembled to begin;
戰(zhàn)栗的戰(zhàn)斗，嘩啦啦拉開序幕，
Yet, while the Austrians held their ground,
頑強抵抗，奧匈軍固守腳下陣地，
Point for attack was nowhere found;
刀劍出鞘，起義軍旋即難覓鋒芒，
Where'er the impatient Switzers gazed,
焦慮的反抗者，如何突出重圍？
The unbroken line of lances blazed;
長矛連綿，錚錚寒光凜冽，
That line't were suicide to meet,
風卷殘云，他們紛紛拔劍自刎，
And perish at their tyrants' feet;
最終倒下，暴君腳下的血泊成河。
How could they rest within their graves,
墓穴里，死者何以超脫永久安息？
And leave their homes the home of slaves?
能否忍受，子孫后代受盡奴役？
Would they not feel their children tread With clanking chains above their head?

It must not be: this day, this hour, Annihilates the oppressor's power

All Switzerland is in the field,

She will not fly, she can not yield;

Few were the numbers she could boast,

And felt as though himself were he On whose sole arm hung victory.
