Blessings on thee, little man,	祝福你呵，小小年紀，
Barefoot boy, with cheek of tan!	赤腳男孩，曬黑的面皮!
With thy turned-up pantaloons,	穿一條馬褲，卷邊的褲腳，
And thy merry whistled tunes;	口哨輕吹，歡快的曲調(diào);
With thy red lip, redder still	嘴唇紅紅，嘗過了山中
Kissed by strawberries on the hill;	生長的草莓，變得更紅;
With the sunshine on thy face,	透過風(fēng)度瀟灑的破帽沿，
Through thy torn brim's jaunty grace	陽光照上了你的孩子臉;
From my heart I give thee joy, -----	我衷心祝愿你滿心歡快，——
I was once a barefoot boy !	我也曾一度是赤腳男孩!
Prince thou art, ---- the grown-up man	你是王子，——長大的成人
Only is republican.	只是共和政體的公民。
Let the million-dollared ride	讓百萬富翁縱橫馳騁!
Barefoot, trudging at his side,	赤腳孩，你在他身旁行進，
Thou hast more than he can buy	通過你的眼睛和耳朵
In the reach of ear and eye, ----	你得到的遠比他買到的多，——
Outward sunshine, inward joy:	戶外的陽光，內(nèi)心的歡愛：
Blessings on thee, barefoot boy !	祝福你呵，赤腳男孩!
Oh for boyhood's painless play,	無憂無慮呵，游戲的童年，
Sleep that wakes in laughing day,	一覺醒來是歡笑的白天，
Health that mocks the doctor's rules,	身體健，誰管醫(yī)生的律條，
Knowledge never learned of schools,	知識多，不是從課堂里學(xué)到，
Of the wild bee's morning chase,	知道野蜂追逐在早上，
Of the wild-flower's time and place,	知道野花在哪里開放;
Flight of fowl and habitude	禽鳥怎樣飛翔，森林里
Of the tenants of the wood;	各種鳥類有什么脾氣;
How the tortoise bears his shell,	烏龜怎樣背負著甲殼，
How the tortoise bears his shell,	土撥鼠怎樣把洞穴挖好，
And the ground-mole sinks his well;	鼴鼠又怎樣挖通地道;
How the robin feeds her young,	知更鳥怎樣喂養(yǎng)子女，
How the oriole's nest is hung;	黃鵬怎樣修筑巢居;
Where the whitest lilies blow,	白色百合花在哪里開放，
Where the freshest berries grow,	新鮮的漿果在哪里生長，
Where the ground-nut trails its vine,	哪里伸展著野豆的藤蔓，
Where the wood-grape's clusters shine;	哪里閃亮著野生的葡萄串;
Of the black wasp's cunning way,	知道黑馬蜂熟練的技巧，
Mason of his walls of clay,	能用粘土來構(gòu)筑蜂巢，
And the architectural plans	灰色大黃蜂是營造專家，
Of gray hornet artisans!	有著一整套建筑規(guī)劃!
For, eschewing books and tasks,	躲過了作業(yè)，避開了書本，
Nature answers all he asks;	大自然回答了所有的提問;
Hand in hand with her he walks,	他跟大自然手拉手行進，
Face to face with her he talks,	他跟大自然面對面談?wù)摚?/td>
Part and parcel of her joy,----	分享大自然的歡樂情懷，——
Blessings on the barefoot boy!	多么幸福呵，赤腳男孩!
Oh for boyhood's time of June,	啊，童年時代的六月，
Crowding years in one brief moon,	一年的花季這時候集結(jié)，
When all things I heard or saw,	我聽到、看到的一切都在
Me, their master, waited for.	等著我(他們的主人)到來。
I was rich in flowers and trees,	我擁有多少鮮花和樹叢，
Humming-birds and honey-bees;	歌唱的小鳥，嗡嗡的蜜蜂;
For my sport the squirrel played,	多好玩啊，松鼠在游戲，
Plied the snouted mole his spade;	尖嘴的鼴鼠勤奮地挖地;
For my taste the blackberry cone	紫色的黑莓供我品嘗，
Purpled over hedge and stone;	竄出了石崖，越過了籬墻;
Laughed the brook for my delight	歡笑的溪水使我喜悅，
Through the day and through the night,	日日夜夜流淌不歇;
Whispering at the garden wall,	在花園墻邊悄悄低語，
Talked with me from fall to fall;	從落差到落差向我傾訴;
Mine the sand-rimmed pickerel pond,	我有鑲沙的狗魚池塘，
Mine the walnut slopes beyond,	我有胡桃樹在那邊斜坡上，
Mine, on bending orchard trees,	我有仙鄉(xiāng)果園的蘋果
Apples of Hesperides!	在果樹彎彎的枝上掛著!
Still as my horizon grew,	我的眼界越來越開闊，
Larger grew my riches too;	我的財富也越來越多;
All the world I saw or knew	我見到、了解的整個世界
Seemed a complex Chinese toy,	像中國玩具組合成一臺
Fashioned for a barefoot boy!	造出來給一個赤腳男孩!
Oh for festal dainties spread,	哦，節(jié)日里有美味佳肴，
Like my bowl of milk and bread;	像我的碗里有牛奶面包，
Pewter spoon and bowl of wood,	白镴的湯匙，木頭的碗，
On the door-stone, gray and rude !	在門前青灰的鋪石上用餐!
O' er me, like a regal tent,	在我的上空，像豪華錦帳，
Cloudy-ribbed, the sunset bent,	霞光四射，落日輝煌，
Purple-curtained, fringed with gold,	紫幕垂掛，鑲著金邊，
Looped in many a wind-swung fold;	風(fēng)卷云霓，百褶連環(huán);
While for music came the play	這時候來了陣陣樂聲，
Of the pied frogs' orchestra;	是青蛙樂隊開始奏鳴;
And, to light the noisy choir,	為了照亮喧鬧的歌班，
Lit the fly his lamp of fire.	熒火蟲點起了燈光閃閃。
I was monarch: pomp and joy	我是君王：歡樂和氣派
Waited on the barefoot boy !	全都侍奉著赤腳男孩!
Cheerily, then, my little man,	那么，孩子，趁著童年，
Live and laugh, as boyhood can !	愉快地生活，常開笑顏!
Though the flinty slopes be hard,	雖然石頭坡嶙峋難爬，
Stubble-speared the new-mown sward.,	新割的草地布滿尖茬，
Every morn shall lead thee through	可每個早晨會領(lǐng)你去經(jīng)歷
Fresh baptisms of the dew;	滴滴露水的新鮮洗禮;
Every evening from thy feet	每個傍晚有涼風(fēng)吹拂，
Shall the cool wind kiss the heat:	從你的腳邊送走炎熱：
All too soon these feet must hide	一眨眼功夫你這雙赤腳
In the prison cells of pride,	將藏進體面的鞋子監(jiān)牢，
Lose the freedom of the sod,	不能在草地上自由來去，
Like a colt's for work be shod,	像釘上鐵蹄干活的馬駒，
Made to tread the mills of toil,	要在磨坊里踏步勞動，
Up and down in ceaseless moil:	轉(zhuǎn)來轉(zhuǎn)去不停地做工：
Happy if their track be found	但愿這一雙腳丫的蹤跡
Never on forbidden ground;	不會印上禁區(qū)的土地;
Happy if they sink not in	但愿這雙腳不會陷進
Quick and treacherous sands of sin.	蒙人的流沙，罪惡的陷阱。
Ah ! that thou couldst know thy joy,	呵，要珍惜你幸福還在，
Ere it passes, barefoot boy!	可幸福難再呵，赤腳男孩!
