相傳古愛爾蘭曾發(fā)生過這樣的事情，凱爾國王率兵入侵阿薩，阿薩國王派兵團扼守關(guān)口，不料這軍團受了敵方賄賂，將關(guān)口拱手相讓，結(jié)果不戰(zhàn)而敗。所以人們后來用sell the pass（出賣關(guān)口）來比喻出賣、背叛或放棄立場的行為。
