eat one's words字面意思是“把文字吃下去”，很多人自然就會(huì)將其理解成“食言”，當(dāng)然其也有這個(gè)意思，需要注意的是這里的“word”必須是復(fù)數(shù)形式。但其還有“收回說(shuō)過(guò)的話，承認(rèn)前言有失，說(shuō)錯(cuò)了，收回前言”的意思。
【例句】
What he said proved wrong, so he had toeat his words.
事實(shí)證明他說(shuō)錯(cuò)了，所以他只好收回前言。
Tom said Nancy would never succeed in her business, but after seeing her business grow, he had toeat his words.
