Achilles是在圍攻特洛伊一戰(zhàn)中名震天下的希臘英雄。在他小時候，被母親放入冥河中，因此刀槍不入。但在這個過程中，他的足跟被母親握住，所以遺留了足跟這個弱點。他的命運是最終被特洛伊王子帕里斯刺傷足跟而死。所以，Achilles' heel的意思是“致命弱點、弱點、唯一致命的弱點”。
