曲解(某人)的話,故意歪曲(某人)的話
實(shí)際上這個(gè)俗語(yǔ)發(fā)生的情況就是某人硬把ta認(rèn)為的你的話的意思安到你頭上,認(rèn)為你說(shuō)的話是ta理解的那個(gè)意思。有種替某人說(shuō)出你覺得別人應(yīng)該說(shuō)的話的意思,但往往情況都并不屬實(shí)。
Stop putting words in my mouth - I didn't say you looked fat in the red dress - I merely said you looked very slim in the black!
別曲解我的話——我并不是說(shuō)你穿紅色顯胖——我只是說(shuō)你穿黑色顯得非常苗條!
Colleague A: It is Friday afternoon and the boss said we could leave early on Friday.
現(xiàn)在是星期五下午,老板說(shuō)我們星期五可以早點(diǎn)下班。
Colleague B: Don't put words in her mouth. She said we could leave early on Friday if we had finished all our work. Is all your work finished?
