in the air

說到 in the air ，那就是飛機(jī)在天上飛。

例：

There is a plane in the air.

天上有架飛機(jī)。

我們常說的 on the air 常用在電視，廣播中表示正在直播。

clear the air

clear是“清除”，air是“空氣”，連起來to clear the air則引申為清除兩人間不愉快的氣氛，其實(shí)就是“打消疑惑、消除隔閡”的意思。

例：

Let's discuss this frankly. It'll be better if we clear the air.

我們還是開誠布公的談一談吧。最好把事情都說明白了。

pie in the sky

pie in the sky這個(gè)俗語最早源于一首歌。1911年，歌曲“The rebel girl and the preacher and the slave”開始被大家廣為傳唱，這首歌意在諷刺當(dāng)時(shí)的“救世軍”國際基督教組織。

“救世軍”提倡塵世受苦，認(rèn)為只有這樣才能進(jìn)入天堂。所以，創(chuàng)作人就在歌中寫道：牧師們每天晚上都要出門傳教，告訴你什么是對(duì)什么是錯(cuò)，但你若問是否有吃的，他們就會(huì)用甜蜜的聲音回答：等到你進(jìn)入天國，一定會(huì)有吃的 You'll get pie in the sky when you die(等你死后你就會(huì)在天上得到餡餅);現(xiàn)在要工作、要祈禱。

所以pie in the sky漸漸被人們所接受，用來形容“空頭支票”、“虛幻不能實(shí)現(xiàn)的空想”。

例：

His dream to become president is just a pie in the sky.

成為總統(tǒng)是他的黃粱美夢。

I don't believe the plan will succeed, it is just pie in the sky.

我不相信這個(gè)計(jì)劃能成功，它根本無法實(shí)現(xiàn)。

Up in the air

懸在半空中，大家可想而知，這個(gè)口語表達(dá)就是“懸而未決，尚未確定”的意思，相當(dāng)于：undecided，uncertain。

If a matter is up in the air, it is uncertain, often because other matters have to be decided first.

懸而未決

例：

The whole future of the project is still up in the air.

這個(gè)項(xiàng)目前途未卜。
