stretch有“拉伸，伸展”的意思，我們常說的伸懶腰stretch oneself就用到了這個詞。這里的truth是被伸展的對象，也就是說事實被夸大了，做了些延伸的解釋

to say something that is not completely honest in order to make someone or something seem better than it really is

為了讓某人或某事看起來比實際更好而說一些不完全誠實的話;夸大事實，言過其實

He was accused of stretching the truth about how much he had helped in the project.

他被指責(zé)夸大了自己在整個項目中的作用。
