你以為cat's paw就是“貓爪子”么？

cat's paw出自《伊索寓言》。一只猴子想吃火中的栗子，但自己不去取，卻抓起貓爪子去取，結(jié)果燒壞了貓爪子。后來人們便用cat's paw來比喻很容易受騙或?yàn)閯e人做危險(xiǎn)事情的人、替死鬼、替罪羊。

例：

The stupid fellow never realized that he was a mere cat's paw in the hands of his enemy.

從字面上看就是在貓的脖子上掛鈴鐺，它的引申義為：自告奮勇去冒險(xiǎn)、挺身而出。它源自《伊索寓言——老鼠會(huì)議》(Aesop’s Fables The Mice in Council)：一群老鼠在鼠洞里舉行會(huì)議，討論如何對付兇狠的貓。白胡須老鼠提議可以在貓的項(xiàng)下掛一個(gè)銅鈴。群鼠一致同意這個(gè)建議，可是，誰去給貓?zhí)租忚K呢?沒有一只老鼠敢去，他們一個(gè)個(gè)都溜掉了。后來短語bell the cat就用來喻指“挺身而出，擔(dān)當(dāng)風(fēng)險(xiǎn)”。
