I USED TO / I DIDN’T USE TO

?

First, we can say, “ I used to” when talking about things that we did frequently in the past but we don’t do today.

首先,當(dāng)我們談?wù)撨^去經(jīng)常做但今天不做的事情時,我們用“I used to”。

For example, I used to take piano lessons when I was a child. I took piano lessons. But nowadays I don’t take piano lessons, so I can say, “I used to take piano lessons.”

例如,我小時候經(jīng)常上鋼琴課。我上過鋼琴課。但是現(xiàn)在我不上鋼琴課了,所以我說,“I used to take piano lessons”。

過去常常

I also used to have long hair, but today I have short hair.

我過去常常是長頭發(fā),但是今天我頭發(fā)是短的。

It’s something that was true in the past but now it has changed. It’s not true anymore, so I use “ I used to” plus the base form of the verb. I used to take piano lessons and I used to have long hair, but not anymore.

這件事在過去是真實的,但是現(xiàn)在變了。變成不是真的了,所以我們用“I used to”加動詞原形。我過去常常上鋼琴課,有長頭發(fā),但是現(xiàn)在這些都不了。

Now I can make a negative sentence by talking about things that were not true in the past and they are true today. For that I use “ I didn’t use to” plus the base form of the verb. I didn’t use to teach English. In the past I had other jobs, other professions, but now I’m an English teacher. It’s a situation that changed. It was different in the past and now it’s something else. I didn’t use to teach English, but now I do.

同樣的我們可以造一個否定句,當(dāng)我們談?wù)摰竭^去不是事實,但現(xiàn)在成為事實的情況。用的就是“I didn't use to”加上動詞原形。I didn't use to teach English. 就是說我過去有其它工作,其它專業(yè),但是我現(xiàn)在是一名英語老師了。這是一種情況的改變。與過去不同,現(xiàn)在變了的意思。我過去不教英語,現(xiàn)在我教了。

“I used to” and “I didn’t use to,” plus the base form of the verb, are used for situations that were different in the past when compared to today. Got it?

“I used to”和“I didn’t use to”加上動詞原形,用于表示與現(xiàn)在比較,過去與現(xiàn)在情況不一樣了。

I’M USED TO / I’M NOT USED TO

Now, we also have the expressions “ I’m used to” and “ I’m not used to.” These are different. These are used for talking about customs, things that you are accustomed to doing.

現(xiàn)在我們來講一下“I’m used to”和“I’m not used to.”。這兩個表達(dá)與之前不同,是用于談?wù)摿?xí)慣的。

For example, here in the United States, I was born in the United States, I’m used to driving on the right side of the road. In England they drive on the left, so I’m used to driving on the right side of the road and I’m not used to driving on the left side of the road, because my custom is to drive on the right. It’s different in England, so I’m not accustomed to driving on the left.

舉個例子,這兒在美國,我是出生于美國的,我們習(xí)慣于在道路右側(cè)行駛。而在英國是在左側(cè),所以我習(xí)慣于在道路右側(cè)行駛,并且不習(xí)慣在道路左側(cè)行駛,因為我的習(xí)慣是在右邊的。而這與英國不同,所以我不習(xí)慣在左側(cè)開車。

習(xí)慣于

Another good example is when it comes to eating meals. Here in the United States we eat our biggest meal usually at dinner, so I’m used to eating a big meal at dinner. But my husband is from Brazil, and in Brazil they often eat a big meal at lunch, and then a lighter meal at dinner, so my husband is not used to eating a big dinner. He’s used to eating a large lunch.

還有一個很好的例子是飲食。在美國,我們的晚餐是一天當(dāng)中最大的一餐。但是我來自巴西的丈夫,在他們國家,午餐是一天當(dāng)中最盛大的一餐,其次是晚餐。所以我的丈夫不習(xí)慣吃一頓盛大的晚餐。他習(xí)慣于吃盛大的午餐。

When using “I’m used to” and “I’m not used to” to talk about customs, then we use the -ing form of the verb. I’m used to eating a big dinner. I’m not used to eating a large lunch.

當(dāng)用“I’m used to”和“I’m not used to”來討論習(xí)慣時,我們用動詞加ing的形式。I’m used to eating a big dinner. I’m not used to eating a large lunch.
