《奇跡男孩》的英文細(xì)節(jié)梗，別再說(shuō)你沒看懂了

原著書名來(lái)自于Natalie Merchant的歌曲Wonder，序言部分是它的歌詞：Doctors have come from distant cities / just to see me / stand over my bed / disbelieving what they’re seeing / They say I must be one of the wonders / of god’s own creation / and as far as they can see they can offer / no explanation.

這段歌詞是R. J. Palacio的創(chuàng)作靈感。Auggie天生畸形，患有mandibulofacial dysostosis。在上5年級(jí)之前，他已經(jīng)經(jīng)歷過(guò)27次大大小小的手術(shù)，能過(guò)到現(xiàn)在這樣就已經(jīng)是medical wonder了。

Auggie的出現(xiàn)讓他的同學(xué)們懂得什么是empathy, friendship, and loyalty。讓他的父母懂得如何愛。書的最后一章中，媽媽對(duì)他說(shuō)：

Thank you for everything you've given us, for coming into our lives, for being you. You really are a wonder.

2 Mr Tushman的名字

校長(zhǎng)的名字叫Tushman，tush在俚語(yǔ)中表示“屁屁”，同義詞有butt, buttock, rump, bottom, rear-end, behind。

Tushman可以理解為“屁屁俠”。在中國(guó)，他有可能會(huì)叫“張美屯” “張辟谷”之類，作為一個(gè)校長(zhǎng)，他的內(nèi)心一定很強(qiáng)大才沒有改名字。

在書中爸爸勸Auggie去上學(xué)的一個(gè)理由是：

You should go to that school just so you can hear his name said over the loudspeaker!

3 supposably vs. supposedly

領(lǐng)Auggie參觀學(xué)校的有3名同學(xué): Julian, Jack, Charlotte。Julian是個(gè)“戲精”(phony)，在同學(xué)面前特別霸道，在大人面前特別乖的那種(the kind of kid who’s one way in front of grown-ups and another way in front of kids)。

在參觀校園中，Auggie淡淡地指出Julian的語(yǔ)法錯(cuò)誤：你剛剛說(shuō)"science elective is supposably really hard"，你說(shuō)的是supposably，不過(guò)實(shí)際上應(yīng)該是supposedly。這告訴我們學(xué)好語(yǔ)法很重要...

4 Like a lamb to the slaughter

爸爸媽媽在討論是否應(yīng)該讓Auggie去上學(xué)的時(shí)候，爸爸說(shuō)不應(yīng)該，因?yàn)閕t's like leading a lamb to the slaughter."

lead a lamb to the slaughter是個(gè)習(xí)語(yǔ)，表示“任人宰割”。

5 《星球大戰(zhàn)》梗

自我介紹的時(shí)候Auggie說(shuō)自己喜歡《星球大戰(zhàn)》。

因?yàn)橄矚g里面的Padawan，他留了個(gè)小辮子。

Jedi Apprentice: Padawan 絕地(英語(yǔ)：Jedi，/?d???da?/，也有人音譯為杰迪或齋殆)是星球大戰(zhàn)世界中的光明武士團(tuán)體，以維持宇宙光明勢(shì)力為己任，并精通原力(the Force)相關(guān)知識(shí)及技巧和使用光劍作為武器，他們懷有高明的戰(zhàn)斗技能與高尚的品德。其行為準(zhǔn)則被認(rèn)為融合了騎士精神、武士道、佛教及道教等思想或宗教。這個(gè)名字是從時(shí)代劇(jidai geki)的“時(shí)代”一詞發(fā)音轉(zhuǎn)化來(lái)。絕地武士的宿敵是代表黑暗面的西斯武士。

Julian問Auggie：

What's your favorite character?

Auggie說(shuō)是賞金獵人Jango Fett(這哥們身著光亮的盔甲，遮蓋住滿是疤痕的臉)。Julian說(shuō)：

What about Darth Sidious? Do you like him?

Darth Sidious是個(gè)大魔王，他曾被自己黑暗面閃電反射回來(lái)的能量嚴(yán)重毀容，樣子特別嚇人。Jullian在暗示Auggie長(zhǎng)得像Darth Sidious，后來(lái)在萬(wàn)圣節(jié)的時(shí)候Jullian也扮成了Darth Sidious。

6 precept

precept/'pri?sept/這個(gè)詞在原著中出現(xiàn)了36次，在電影中也多次出現(xiàn)。

precept的字面意思是“準(zhǔn)則” “戒律”，不過(guò)在Mr Browne的定義中，它表示

"Any saying or ground rule that can motivate you" "a precept is anything that helps guide us when making decisions about really important things"。

Browne老師的第一個(gè)Precept是：

When given the choice between being right or being kind. Choose kind.

這也是全書的主題之一：be kind.

Browne老師鼓勵(lì)學(xué)生們自己寫precept，Auggie寫的是：

Everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their life because we all overcometh the world.

這段話也出現(xiàn)在了電影的結(jié)尾處。
