新聞漢譯英方法總結(jié)（2） 2012年5月7日

今日講解：詞匯篇

詞匯是學(xué)習(xí)英語(yǔ)的基礎(chǔ)，更是翻譯的基礎(chǔ)。詞匯的運(yùn)用對(duì)翻譯水平的高低，以及翻譯的的準(zhǔn)確和邏輯性都有很重大的影響。這周我們就稍微總結(jié)一下詞匯的微妙。

(1 ) Milestone：[多單數(shù)] a very important event in the development of something. 【新聞漢譯英 2012年5月1日】

從英英解釋中我們得出milestone 已包含發(fā)展意思。所以：

新的世貿(mào)中心建設(shè)已取得一個(gè)里程碑的進(jìn)展。

The new World Trade Center has reached a milestone.【新聞漢譯英 2012年5月1日】

The construction of new Word Trade Centre has reached a milestone of process. (此處紅色為多余)

另外Milestone的同義詞 landmark。

The construction of world trade center has got a landmark developing. (前有construction 后可省略 developing)

(2)high 和tall 的區(qū)別：【新聞漢譯英 2012年5月2日】

High：(opposite low)可用來(lái)描述大多數(shù)事物，尤指該事物或其頂部離地面的高度。(不用于形

容人、動(dòng)物或植物)

Eg: a high mountain. The shelf is too high, I can’t reach it.

Tall:(opposite short),is used for people and animal. 多形容人，樹(shù)等;

也可用于高而窄的東西，尤指這個(gè)東西從頂?shù)降椎娜嚯x。

Eg: He is very tall.

A tall building like the Empire State Building.

decide 和determine 的區(qū)別：

(1)當(dāng)決心做某事時(shí)，二者基本相似。

Eg: He determined to learn medicine. (He decided to learn medicine.)

他決定學(xué)醫(yī)。

(2)Determine: 有是...的決定因素;形成;影響,decide 則沒(méi)有。

Eg: Demand determines supply. 需求決定供給。

But feet not stories, generally speaking, determine whether a building ranks as the tallest.【新聞漢譯英2012年5月2日】

Layer 和story的區(qū)別：

Layer: A layer of a material or substance is a quantity or piece of it that covers a surface or that is between two other things. (覆蓋)層

Eg: ozone layer 臭氧層。 地質(zhì)結(jié)構(gòu)中的巖石層，也用layer

Story: a floor or level of a building. (建筑物的)層

Eg: But feet not stories, generally speaking, determine whether a building ranks as the tallest 【新聞漢譯英 2012年5月2日】

(3)注意同義詞的總結(jié)，這是英語(yǔ)的一大特色，多同義詞，不喜歡重復(fù)同一個(gè)單詞。

(1) 如果不能認(rèn)識(shí)缺點(diǎn)?！拘侣劃h譯英 2012年5月3日】

If they fail to recognize their faults/disadvantages/shortcomings/weakness.

(2) 因?yàn)樗麄儗?duì)自身領(lǐng)導(dǎo)能力的自我評(píng)價(jià)要高于上司或同事對(duì)他們的評(píng)價(jià)。

They rate/evaluate/consider/judge/estimate/the self-evaluation on their own leadership skills higher than their boss or co-workers do.

總之，還是建議大家多查字典，看英英解釋，多品味英語(yǔ)單詞的內(nèi)涵，切不可照搬漢語(yǔ)意思記憶，多思考英語(yǔ)的思維方式。殊不知，英語(yǔ)單詞的意思和漢語(yǔ)許多情況下是不能一詞一詞對(duì)應(yīng)的，許多英文單詞的意思用漢語(yǔ)可能要一個(gè)短語(yǔ)，甚至一句話才能表達(dá)清楚，主要還是文化的不同，表達(dá)的不同。
