以清潔房屋為生的單身母親羅絲(艾美•亞當斯Amy Adams 飾)高中時曾是風光一時的校啦啦隊員。當年男友邁克(史蒂夫•贊恩 Steve Zahn 飾)終于另娶他人，羅絲卻與身為警察的邁克依然保持情人關(guān)系。羅絲八歲的兒子奧斯卡(杰森•斯佩瓦克 Jason Spevack 飾)因搗亂被學校開除，羅絲決定送兒子入私立學校學習。邁克告知羅絲犯罪現(xiàn)場清潔有利可圖，于是羅絲與失業(yè)的妹妹諾拉(艾米麗•布朗特 Emily Blunt 飾)組成“陽光清洗公司”，專門清潔犯罪、事故現(xiàn)場，而做小生意的父親喬(阿蘭•阿金 Alan Arkin 飾)暫時照顧奧斯卡?？晒酒鸩?jīng)]多久，卻因諾拉的失誤造成了無可挽回的損失，姐妹二人也因此不歡而散……
