The Scar

傷疤

A little boy invited his mother

有個(gè)小男孩邀請(qǐng)他的媽媽

to attend his elementary school's first parent-teacher conference.

去參加學(xué)校舉辦的第一次家長(zhǎng)會(huì)。

To the little boy's dismay,she said she would go.

令他沮喪的是,媽媽竟然答應(yīng)去。

This would be the first time that his classmates andteacher met his mother

同學(xué)們和老師們將是第一次見(jiàn)到媽媽，

and he was embarrassed by her appearance.

但是,媽媽的相貌將令他感到難堪。

Although she was a beautiful woman, there was a severe scar

雖然媽媽非常漂亮,但有一塊嚴(yán)重的傷疤

that covered nearly the entire right side of her face.

幾乎覆蓋了她的整個(gè)右臉。

The boy never wanted to talk about why or how she got the scar.

小男孩從來(lái)沒(méi)有問(wèn)過(guò)他媽媽傷疤的來(lái)歷。

At the conference,

家長(zhǎng)會(huì)上，

the people were impressed by the kindness and natural beauty of his mother

小男孩媽媽的善良和藹以及天生麗質(zhì)給人們留下了深刻的印象，

despite the scar,

沒(méi)有人在意她臉上的那塊傷疤。

but the little boy was still embarrassed and hid himself from everyone.

但是,小男孩去感到局促不安,他藏起來(lái)不與人打照面。

He did,however，

盡管如此，

get within earshot of a conversation between his mother and his teacher,

他還是能聽(tīng)到媽媽和老師的談話，

and heard them speaking.

能聽(tīng)見(jiàn)他們談話的內(nèi)容。

"How did you get the scar on your face?" the teacher asked. The mother replied,

"您臉上的傷疤是怎么來(lái)的?"老師問(wèn)道，小男孩的母親答道:

"When my son was a baby,he was in a room that caught on fire.

"兒子很小的時(shí)候,他的房間突然著火了。

Everyone was too afraid to go in because the fire was out of control,

大家都不敢進(jìn)去,因?yàn)榛饎?shì)失控了。

so I went in.

我進(jìn)去了。

As I was running towards his crib,I saw a beam coming down

就在我跑向他的嬰兒床的時(shí)候,我看到一根房梁就要倒下來(lái),

and I placed myself over him trying to protect him.

我撲到他的床上,想護(hù)住他,

I was knocked unconscious but fortunately,

房梁把我砸暈了。幸運(yùn)的是,

a fireman came in and saved both of us."

消防員沖了進(jìn)來(lái),救了我們。"

She touched the burned side of her face.

她摸著臉上的傷疤,說(shuō):

"This scar will be permanent,

"這塊傷疤會(huì)永遠(yuǎn)留在臉上，

but to this day,I have never regretted doing what I did."

但是直到今天,我從沒(méi)為我做的事后悔過(guò)。"

At this point,

聽(tīng)到這里，

the little boy came out running towards his mother with tears in his eyes.

小男孩走了出來(lái),滿含熱淚奔向媽媽，

He hugged her and felt an overwhelming sense of the sacrifice

擁抱著她.他內(nèi)心激動(dòng)無(wú)比，

that his mother had made for him.

母親為他作出了犧牲。

He held her hand tightly for the rest of the day.

在當(dāng)天后來(lái)所有的時(shí)間里。小男孩緊抓媽媽的手不曾松過(guò)。
