Leading financial institutions have welcomed an initiative by five European countries to fight tax evasion. They've agreed to share information about the ownership of shell companies and trusts established in tax havens. Our economics editor, Kamel Amit, reports. Ten days after the leak of 11.5 million documents, known as the Panama Papers, the announcement in Washington was the first concerted effort as an international response. Britain, Germany, France, Spain and Italy agreed to share previously secret tax data. The five European countries have now written to the rest of the G20 richest nations, urging them to join the transparency agreement.

Nationwide more than 40000 people had leaved their homes but some are now returning despite frequent aftershocks. The Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, said the government had mobilized police, firefighters, and troops for rescue operations.

Twenty school children and six teachers were killed when Adam Lanza opened fire in December, 2012 with the semi-sutomatic rifle bought by his mother.
