And as Ahab, leaning over the taffrail, eyed the homewardbound craft, he took from his pocket a small vial of sand, and then looking from the ship to the vial, seemed thereby bringing two remote associations together, for that vial was filled with Nantucket soundings.

第一百十六章 垂死的鯨

So seemed it with the Pequod. For next day after encountering the gay Bachelor, whales were seen and four were slain; and one of them by Ahab.

在我們這種生活中，往往會(huì)碰到這樣的事情：雖然剛才還是垂頭喪氣，趑趄不前，但是，突然從右邊有一艘幸運(yùn)兒的船只擦身而過，我們也就多少沾到了一陣疾風(fēng)，樂不可支地覺得我們那些癟袋似的篷帆也變得脹鼓鼓的了。"裴廓德號(hào)"似乎就是這般情況。因?yàn)樵谂龅侥撬遗d高采烈的"單身漢號(hào)"后的第二天，我們就發(fā)現(xiàn)了許多鯨，而且打到了四條，其中有一條是亞哈打到的。
