廚司呀，斯塔布迅速舉起一塊血紅的東西往嘴里一送后，說道，"你想這肉排可不煮得爛了些嗎？你把它敲得太厲害了，廚司；這肉本來就很嫩。我不是始終說，要把鯨排煮得好，就要煮得生些么？現(xiàn)在就在船邊的那些鯊魚，你沒有看到它們是愛吃半生不熟和生的肉排嗎？它們吵得多厲害！廚司，去對它們講一講；告訴它們，歡迎它們來吃，就是要吃得文雅些，有節(jié)制點(diǎn)，而且一定要安靜。該死的東西，我吃東西會聽到自己的聲響，我才不信。走吧，廚司，傳我的話去吧。喏，把這只燈籠拿著，"他從食具架上抓起一只燈籠給他；"去跟它們講一通道吧！"

弗里斯老頭繃著臉，接過那只燈籠，一瘸一瘸地橫過甲板，到對面舷墻去；于是，他一只手把燈籠低照著海上，以便好好地端相一下他的會眾，另一只手一本正經(jīng)地?fù)]舞起他那火鉗，把大半截身子俯撲在船舷外面，囁囁嚅嚅地對那些鯊魚講起話來。這時，斯塔布悄悄地爬到他背后，偷聽他說話。
