這已說得不少了;然而,對于亞哈的更偉大。

But vain to popularize profundities, and all truth is profound.

更秘密。更深沉的部分卻還只字未提。

不過,要把深奧的東西說得盡人皆懂是徒勞的,一切真理都是深奧的。

不管里邊多么富麗堂皇,引人入勝,還是走吧。你們這些高貴而憂傷的靈魂,請走向那宏偉的古羅馬的浴場里去吧,在那里,遠在人類大地的珍奇的城堡下面,人類那種壯麗之本,整個令人敬畏之源真是幽深古老;

真是一種匿跡在許多古物下面的古物,是建筑在未完成的巨構(gòu)上的寶座!于是,大神們就以這個毀壞了的寶座來嘲弄那個俘獲的王尊;他卻耐心耐性地坐在那里,有如一根象柱,在他那硬僵的頭上頂著許多年代久遠的柱頂線盤。

你們這些高傲而憂傷的靈魂,你們打那兒蜿蜒而下吧,去問那個高傲而憂傷的王尊吧!家世多相似!是

呀,他確是生下了你們,生下了你們這些被放逐的年輕貴胄;而且也只有從你那臉容嚴酷的祖先那里才獲得了宗室的古老的秘密。

現(xiàn)在,在亞哈心里,就有這么一種閃覺,就是說:我所有的手段都是神志清楚的,我的動機和目的卻是瘋狂的。

然而,他卻沒有力量來摧毀。變更和規(guī)避那一事實;他同樣也知道他久已對人掩飾真情了;可以說,直到現(xiàn)在還是這樣。

But that thing of his dissembling was only subject to his perceptibility, not to his will determinate.

不過,關(guān)于他的這種掩飾做法,也只是以他的外表為限,而不涉及他那堅毅的意志。
