后甲板上傳來大副的聲音:

升降索旁邊的人呀!扯著上帆呀!準(zhǔn)備收縮中帆!全體:
The squall! the squall! jump, my jollies! (They scatter.)
狂風(fēng)來啦,狂風(fēng)來啦!趕快呀,水手們!(大家都散開了)
PIP (Shrinking under the windlass)
比普(縮在絞車下面):
Jollies? Lord help such jollies! Crish, crash! there goes the jib-stay! Blang-whang! God! Duck lower, Pip, here comes the royal yard!
水手么?愿上帝賜助這些水手!吱哩克拉,三角帆架給拆掉嘍!噼里啪啦!天呀!再鉆低些,比普,頂上的桅帆飛過來嘍!
It's worse than being in the whirled woods, the last day of the year!
這比在刮旋風(fēng)的樹林里還要糟,真是末日來到了!
Who'd go climbing after chestnuts now?
現(xiàn)在誰敢上樹采栗子呀?
But there they go, all cursing, and here I don't.
不過他們都去了,都在咒罵,我卻不去。
Fine prospects to 'em; they're on the road to heaven.

但是,那些家伙還要糟呢!他們就是你的白浪暴風(fēng),他們。

白浪暴風(fēng)么?還是白鯨,噓!噓!
Here have I heard all their chat just now, and the white whale-shirr! shirr!but spoken of once! and only this evening-it makes me jingle all over like my tambourine-that anaconda of an old man swore 'em in to hunt him!
他們這會兒的談話,我在這兒都聽到了,還有那白鯨...噓!噓!不過只說過一遍,只在今天晚上...那可叫我嚇得象我的小手鼓一般,渾身當(dāng)當(dāng)響...那個(gè)蟒蛇似的老頭子要他們發(fā)誓去追捕它呀!
