時差N小時:睡眠不足 Sleep debt

YAEL:Today, on a Moment of Science, we'reconducting an experiment on sleep deprivation.

雅艾爾:在今天的科學(xué)一刻節(jié)目中,我們正在進(jìn)行的是一項睡剝奪眠的實(shí)驗(yàn)。

On my right, we have my friend Bob, who hasn'tslept in eighty-eight hours straight!

我的右手邊是88小時沒有合過眼，我的朋友鮑勃。

Bob? Bob? Okay, so he's pretty unresponsive.

鮑勃?鮑勃?好吧,他沒什么反應(yīng)。

And on my left, we have Don, who has beenrestricted to no more than four hours of sleep anight for the past two weeks.

而我的左邊是唐,他被限制在過去兩周每晚睡眠時間不超過4個小時。

How are you feeling, Don?

現(xiàn)在感覺如何，唐?DON:Well, I'm a little tired, Yael, butnot as tired as Bob over there, who I think is drooling.

唐:嗯,雅艾爾，我只是感覺有點(diǎn)累,但是沒有鮑勃看起來那樣累,我覺得他在流口水。

YAEL:If you've ever relied on a doctor or an airplane pilot, then you know there's a lot at stakeover whether Don is telling the truth about how tired he feels.

DON:Of course I'm telling the truth. I feel fine.

YAEL:Well, you might think you feel fine, but I have in front of me the result of the cognitiveperformance tests both you and Bob over here took earlier today.

雅艾爾:嗯,你可能會自認(rèn)為感覺很好,但在我面前的是今天早些時候你和鮑勃兩人的認(rèn)知表現(xiàn)測試結(jié)果。

And guess what?! Don! Don!

DON:Huh? What?

唐:嗯?什么?

YAEL:These cognitive performance tests show that you and Bob are having equal troubleperforming some pretty basic tasks.

雅艾爾:這些認(rèn)知表現(xiàn)測試顯示你和鮑勃在執(zhí)行一些非常基本的任務(wù)時有著一樣的麻煩。

DON:But Bob hasn't slept in three days!

唐:但鮑勃可是3天沒睡過覺!

YAEL:Exactly. So that means that even missing only a couple of hours of sleep a night reallyadds up if you do it every night.

雅艾爾:沒錯。所以即使如果每天只是少幾個小時的睡眠，長此以往如此也會有顯著的效果。

In other words, sleep debt is cumulative,

換句話說,睡眠債是累積的,

and right now, you have no more business going out there and driving a car than Bob does.

而現(xiàn)在,比起鮑勃，你最好也別出門談生意及駕駛車輛。

What's more, you're so tired right now that you can't even properly evaluate how tired you are,which makes your sleep debt even more dangerous.

更重要的是, 現(xiàn)在如此疲倦的你甚至不能正確地評價自己有多疲倦,這使得你的睡眠債更危險。

DON:Guess I better catch up on some Zs!

唐:我想自己最好感覺補(bǔ)點(diǎn)覺!

YAEL:Looks like Bob's beaten you to it.

雅艾爾:看起來鮑勃已經(jīng)先你一步。
