Huge swarms of stinging jellyfish and similar slimyanimals are ruining beaches in Hawaii, the Gulf ofMexico, the Mediterranean, Australia and elsewhere,U.S. researchers reported on Dec.12.

研究人員12月12日報告，大群帶刺的水母，以及同樣黏滑的水生動物正在破壞夏威夷，墨西哥海灣，地中海、澳大利亞和美國沿岸的海灘。

The report says 150 million people are exposed tojellyfish globally every year, with 500,000 peoplestung in the Chesapeake Bay, off the U.S. AtlanticCoast, alone.

報告顯示全球每年有1.5億人會接觸到水母，其中僅在美國大西洋沿岸的切薩皮克灣就有50萬人被水母刺傷。

The report says the Black Sea's fishing and tourism industries have lost $350 million because ofa proliferation of comb jelly fish.

報告上還顯示：由于冠狀水母的大量繁殖，導致黑海的漁業(yè)和旅游業(yè)每年損失三億五千萬美金。

The report says more than 1,000 fist-sized comb jellies can be found in a cubic yard (meter) ofBlack Sea water during a bloom.

報道還涉及到在繁殖旺期，黑海每一立方米的水域中就有一千多拳頭大小的櫛水母。

They eat the eggs of fish and compete with them for food, wiping out the livelihoods offishermen, according to the report.

此外水母吞食魚卵，和魚類搶奪食物，徹底斷了漁民的生計。

Human activities that could be making things nice for jellyfish include pollution, climatechange, introductions of non-native species, overfishing and building artificial structures suchas oil and gas rigs.

人類的某些行為會讓水母的生存條件更好，這些行為包括污染，氣候變化、引進外來物種、過度捕魚以及搭建人工構造物，比如石油和天然氣鉆井。
